BUSY SIGNALS GOOD RACE Wins Historic Jerome Handicap and Beats On Watch. Enfilade in Good Form Again and an Easy Winner Belmont Park Track Gossip. NEW YORK, X. Y., September 9. The Jerome Handicap at one mile, featuring the Belmont program of this afternoon, attracted a big mid-week crowd. Only fonr started in the Jerome, with G. W. Lofts colt On Watch ruling the favorite, E. R. Bradleys Busy Signal being the second choice. The latter was the medium of a heavy plunge at the close of operations and. getting off in front, won all the way, finishing two lengths in advance of Pilgrim, with On Watch a tired third. Busy Signal stood U hard drive all through the stretch. The pace caused Pilgrim to swerve out in the stretch, but On Watch was done, as he did not have enough speed at the time to take second place. It was a fast run mile and the filly is at her best. The Bellair Handicap for mares and fillies brought nine to the post and the winner turned up in Enfilade, which closed as equal favorite with Wedding Cake. Elected II. was the early pacemaker, but she had enough when the field came around the stretch bend and gave way to Enfilade, which held Iter advantage to the finish. Lady Gertrude came from far back to take second place. Wedding Cake threatened at the sixteenth post, but she had been much used in following the leaders and tired in the closing strides. The opening dash for two-year-olds saw a head finish between Gilt Fringe and Wise Dove, with the favorite, Wedgwood, third. Wedgwood led her until fifty yards out, when Gilt Fringe came fast next to the rail and got up in time to head Wise Dove in the last stride. Wedgwood was a length back. Runmic showed speed in the early running, but; tired near the finish. There was some activity shown among the oralizcrs about Jamaica Belle, but the Great Britain filly was outrun all the way. OUR BOOTS AN EASY WINNER. The second race, for maiden two-year-olds, proved easy for Our Boots, the heavily backed favorite.. The Waterbury colt took the lead at once, set a fast pace and won under restraint by five lengths. Inglecrest, second choice, ran as if much the best of the others, taking second place easily with Cote dOr third. Copper Demon ran a good race, coining from far back with a rush at the finish. LEclair showed sonje early speed, but ran a bit green and finished far in the ruck. O. Peterson will divide his stable, sending a division, including George Bovee, John I. Day ami Tan It., to Havre de Grace. .7. G. Wagnon, trainer of the Pelican stable, was nt Belmont Park today consulting his employer, W. H. Rowc. After looking over part of the stnble in Maryland, Wagnon will return to Blue Bonnets. William Wallace,, western trainer for the Xalapa Farm stable, brought the two-year-olds Debonaire, Vls.ta, Edgar Allan Poe. Aida McGee and the three-year-old East Indian to Belmont Park yesterday. These horses will be campaigned on the metropolitan trucks for the remainder of the racing season. It was reported at Belmont Park yesterday that the veteran trainer, William Heuston, will take up training duties for the W. S. Kilmer stable, following the resignation of Simon Heaiy. Mr. Heuston has been employed by Mr. Kilmer, at his breeding fnrpi for a number of years. He formerly trained for Miles Finlen, Mr. Ruppert and others. Ten Point was received by The Jockey Club Bureau yesterday, as the gift of A. L. Aste. Ten Point is a grand looking individual, weighing 1,-JOO pounds and standing seventeen hands. He will he placed on Long Island. Jockey Rodriguez left Belmont Park yesterday to ride for his contract employer, R. Parr, on the Maryland circuit. T. W. OBriens colt Pluribus. winner of the Snuford Memorial Stakes at Saratoga, is reported in racing form again after being on the shelf for the past mouth. He probably will start during the Aqueduct meeting and later go to Havre de Grace, where he Is engaged in the rich Eastern Shore Handicap.
