HUNTING, FISHING AND SPORT. According to last years decision of the Minnesota state legislature, it is said that no person in that state will be permitted to take out a hunting license if, holding one the year previous, he has not filed a complete report of all game he shot that season. The object of the law is to collect reliable statistics and information which will be beneficial in conservation of game. The Thurso River is one of the most noted salmon fishing rivers in Great Britain. As many as twenty-one fish have been caught by a single angler in one day. Among the best records for a single days fishing are that of May 14, 1917, when seventeen salmon, weighing 187 pounds, were landed by Sir Archibald Sinclair in six hours, and of Mr. John Menzies catch on April 10 of sixteen salmon weighing lSSi pounds. It is the belief of sportsmen in nearly every section of the country that the duck shooting this autumn will be the best it has been hi years. The birds have nested well in most of the northern states and the flight this fall should be large. About all that is needed is a good fall of rain at the proper time and some freezing weather in the North before the middle of November to start the birds migrating South before the lakes and ponds in the middle AVest freeze over. A peculiar incident recently occured at Tims Lake, near Jackson, Mich. As a double protection, a fisherman had his hook wired on the line, aiid in pulling in something that seemed to have considerable gainrness the line suddenly snapped. He pulled in and discovered that his hook, extra wire and all were missing. That night, while cleaning their mess of bullheads, he noticed that one of the fish was considerably oversize around the center and, cutting open the fish, he found his hook, wire and everything, just as he hud thrown it into the water, including the live bait.
