SURPRISE IN THE ST. LEGER Caligula, Owned by Indian Sportsman, Victor at Long Odds Spion Kop, the Derby Winner, Runs Last. LONDON, England, September 9. The 1920 St. Leger, last of the five English classics of the year, furnished a great surprise when the Derby winner, Spion Kop, the favorite, finished last, and the outsider, Caligula, which was sold for a good price by Lord Wilton last Friday, won at odds of 100 to i. It was a fine race and run before a record crowd, although the day was dull and the air full of mist. The winner is owned by an Indian sportsman, v. o. coiculdas, a Calcutta merchant. Spion Kop was never dangerous, and when beaten was eased up. He was evidently not himself. There had been rumors about him for some time. The race had fourteen starters, was truly run and Caligula, the winner, well placed and ridden throughout, took the lead a quarter of a mile from the finish and won gamely after resisting Silverns pressing challenge.
