ENGLISH JUVENILE SIRES Sunstar the Leader in England, with Polymelus and Roi Herode Close Up Rivals. BY E. E. COUSSELL. LONDON, England. September 21. No statistics relating to the sires of two-year-old winners in Great Britain have yet appeared in print. The figures below have been compiled down to the- close of the Doncastcr meeting, arid nra, therefore, dependable. Sunstar has a big lead as regards" number of actual winners and races won. Polymelus may become" a daugerous rival as will ba seen from a glance at his winners, for it is generally understood that Mr. J. B. Joels best two-year-old is Humoiist. It would indeed be curious if ho were the menus of depriving Sunsissr of leadership. Perhaps, if they come back to form, Alan Breck and Polly Flinders may be set off against each other. The best youngster by Roi Ilerode, is the unbeaten Leightoh, which has won four races. 1 understand he will hot run again this year. Bucksee, by Lou-vois, is one of the best Irish two-year-olds and unbeaten. La Voiture in England has also done well for her sire. Bcisize. an unbeaten colt, is the best two-year-old in Ireland. He is a sou of Captivatiou and was bred by Mr. E. Kennedy, the breeder cf The Tetrarch. Belsizes dani is a mare by Eager; Four of Tracerys two-year-olds are speedy individuals, and if one or two of them were to score in the big autumn, juvenile events the son of Rock Sand would be a serious competitor of the leader. Polenuireh and Trash may make The Tetrarchs figures look different by the end of the year. Of course, the feature of the statistics is the position occupied by the 25 sire Honey Bee. which, as previously mentioned, cost only 25 after winning his last race a few months before he commenced stud duties in 1917. The winners mentioned are his first runners, and I think include all the foals he got in his first season. It is curious that a 5 sire should follow a stallion whose fee is ,500. Diadumenos is another young sire represented by his first twp-year-olds. The sou of Orby made such an impression that his list for 1921 was filled by July last. Other young stallions now mentioned below whose first offspring are racing this year are: Call o the Wild, Dairy Bridge 3 winners, ,2-15, Golden Sun 2 winners, ,470, Grave Greek ; ,405, Marcus ,4S5, Marten 3 winners, ,520, Outram .910, Sir Eager ,250, Son-in-Law 00, and Torloisl: 4 winners, ,485. With one or perhaps two exceptions, these horses were not of sufficiently high class as racers to attract many of the best bred mares. Therefore, of this years young stallions hope may be built upon Diadumenos, Golden Son and Son-in-Law. None of them is, however, likely t,o emulate the feat of St. Simon and The Tetrarch, which gained the-head of the sires list when their first stock were three-year-olds. On the other hand, there may be an unrcvealed sire of merit. For instance, Isonomy, among his. first runners had no two-year-old winner, though several were successful the next season.
