IMPORTANT POINT AN OWNER MISSED The hero of this story is a well-known bookmaker in the paddock at Randwick. He and his partner bought a horse named Peach Melba for 50 and found they had got a decent mare. The I standing order to the jockey was, "Until we tell you otherwise, youre dead." They had run Peajh Melba at every meeting, from Bourke to Cowra, I and the Cowra Cup was their object. Peach Melba was never better in her life than when they saddled her up for the race. The senior partner ! then got busy in the ring and from 20 to 1 Peach Melba came to 2 to 1. After a sensational finish she was beaten on the post. The owners rage was only excelled by the anger of the rider, who, before he dismounted in the weighjng inclosure, growled, "Look here, the next time you want me to ride this marc Im going to win. She nearly pulled my arms out." The senior partner had done everything but tell the pilot to win. Sydney Bulletin.
