No great prices were realized, hut the offer- ings brought all that they were worth. v A heavy rain fell throughout the hours of a the sale, but it did not hold down the attendance to any noticeable extent. The bid- ding was spirited upon several occasions, while at other times it lagged considerably. e A bay colt by Short Grass Intrigue, offered s by the corporation named after this sire, j, brought the top price of the night, ,000, and was acquired by J. C. Milam. S. P. v Harlan, trainer for the Greentree Stable, u was also after this one, but dropped out at j, 54.900. t . "William Martin and Walter .T. Samon en- gaged in lively bidding for a bay colt by Pennant Gentlewoman, which was sent into the sales ring by the same consigners, and fell to the former for ,S00. Both of these t colts are grand appearing individuals, and j produced quick action on the part of the rj bidders the moment they stepped into the ring. r The Syndicate Stable, which has a limit of ,000 in purchasing yearlings, obtained r several last night. Upon one occasion they j were forced to touch the limit in order to i get a chestnut filly by Glencairn Florence L. R. H. McCartcr Potter sent a consignment -of yearlings to the sales that were well re-ceived, when six were disposed of for a total of 37,700. The ten from the Short Grass Stud brought 5,250. Only three reached the ,000 mark. Of the seven put up by Joseph Marrone four r were bought by James Fitzsimmons, trainer t for the Quincy Stable. The star of this outfit from a standpoint of price was a chestnut colt by Glencairn Ringling, which brought ,100. Fitzsimmons got this one. 1 The summary of the sale follows : Property of Mr. H. C.
