RAPID PROGRESS SHOWN AT TAN FO RAN TRACK SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., August 8. First hand information of the progress and plans of the promoters of the proposed winter race meeting at Tanforan Park,-San Francisco, beginning on next Thanksgiving day, was brought east by George H. Strate, who came in witli the fifteen yearlings consigned to the Fasig-Tipton auction sales by J. H. Rosseter, his employer. Strate visited the Tanforan course ten days ago, just previous to his leaving California, and said that a large number of workmen were engaged in putting it into racing condition. "The people in that section are eager for a return of racing,." said Strate, "and they will get it next winter. The Tanforan track will be ready long before the scheduled opening date and, according to present plans, it will be a model of beauty as well as convenience for the patrons. The old grandstand has been torn down and a new structure is being erected. The stables will provide the latest in sanitation and comfort of the horses. The other buildings will also be built along the most up-to-date lines. "The race meeting will be strictly a sporting venture and those back of it have received assurance of many easterners that they will do their part to make it a success by sending horses out to race." While en route from California, Strate stopped off several days at Lexington, Ky., where Rosseter also has a farm. He said that there are a large number of racers resting there for the autumn meetings in the Blue Grass State, but most of them will head for Louisville within a few days.
