SYNDICATE STABLE WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., August 8. While Mrs. Penn Smith Jr. has withdrawn from the Syndicate StaTfle to race under her own silks next year, there will still be the Syndicate Stable. It is composed of Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark and her brother-in-law, Stephen Clark. When there was a sale of the horses in training at the Empire City meeting the stable was for the instant wiped out, but it was a part of the agreement when the stable was formed last August, that yearlings were to be purchased, developed, raced and sold and then there was to be a new crop for 1923. That is just what has happened and there are five yearlings already in the Syndicate Stable for the racing of next year. Last August among the yearlings that were purchased were Scare Crow, Smatter Pop, Sarsaparilla, Syndicate, Sentimental Tommie, Susiana, Suspicion and some others. Tne whole band only cost ,000 and, in addition to the sport that was had in developing and racing them, it was a paying venture. At the sale Monday night there were live yearlings bought by J. Simon Healy ror the Syndicate Stable for a total of ,600, i and others will be added. The top price paid at this sale was ,000 for a chestnut daughter of Joseph Marrones stallion Glencairn and Florence L., a daughter of Celt. Barion, a daughter of Sandbar Devotion, cost the stable 00, and 00 each was paid 1 for a bay colt by Horron Taska and a chestnut filly by Flittergold Tantalize. The other purchase was a bay filly by Assagai Caris-brooke Castle, a sister to Alice C, costing only 00. While the same idea of buying cheap yearlings and developing them is being tarried out, the yearlings thus obtained are, to say the least, a much better looking band than those that were raced so successfully this year. ! ; . , , , r
