CLASSIC ST. LEGER STAKES Entries for Famous English Race Run for One Hundred and Forty-Six Years. The oldest high-class race in the world is the St. Leger. This is one of the classic races of England and was first run in 1770. This year it will be run on Wednesday, September 13, for the one hundred and forty-seventh time. The St. Leger is for three-year-olds, entire colts and fillies, with 0,000 addetl; and over the St. Leger course of one mile and three-quarters and 132 yards. The breeder of the winner receives ,500 out of ihe stakes. Being one of the most famous races in the world it is only natural that breeders the world over should desire to be represented in the St. Leger with one or more entries, with the result that each year brings an imposing array of nominations for it, the total for this year being 331. After the declarations on March of this year the following remained and from them will come the field that will contest for the monetary reward and fame that goes to its winner: The St. Leger Stakes of 250 each, half forfeit, or 5 only if declared by the last Tuesday in March, 1922, with 0,010 added, for entire colts and fillies, foaled in 1920; colts 120 pounds, fillies 123 pounds; the bleeder of the winner to receive ,500, the owner of the second ,000 and the owner of the third ,000 out of the stakes; St. Leger course about one mile, six furlongs and 132 yards 331 entries.
