TWO STAKES FOR BOWIE Inaugural and Prince George Han ¬ dicaps Each 5000 Added Southern Maryland Agricultural Fair Asso ¬ ciation IMans to Distribute Over 110000 During Spring Meeting BALTIMORE Md February 20 It is ex ¬ pected that the Maryland State Racing Com ¬ mission will shortly announce the spring rac ¬ ing dates for the big Maryland tracks and that Bowie will open its gates Monday April 2 In preparation for the meeting at Prince George Park the Southern Maryland Agri ¬ cultural Fair Association has announced two 55000 added stake features Over 110000 will be distributed among the successful own ¬ ers taking part in the races racesThe The 55000 races will be the Inaugural and Prince George Handicaps the former at seveneighths and the latter at a mile and a sixteenth both for threeyearolds and over The Inaugural will be the opening days main attraction The Prince George Handicap will be decided on the final day The institution of these races which was decided on by general manager James F OHara and his principal associate in the Prince George Park directorate Gadsoii Bryan Jr at Jefferson Park New Orleans on Saturday will mark a departure in Bowie policy In the past no stakes have been decided at Prince George Park in the spring it having been noted that getting firstclass horses the only sort that belong in stakes ready for firstclass performance by the first of April was a herculean task The recent improvement in winter racing has caused this change of policy The gen ¬ erosity of the managements at Havana New Orleans and Tijuana has been attracting to these winter racing places horses above the ordinary and such of these as will have sur ¬ vived the rigors of winter training and rac ¬ ing will in the spring be available for such new stakes as the Bowie management has decided to open openThe The Bowie meeting will be followed by meetings at Havre de Grace and Pimlico the latter being characterized by the distribution of 200000 and the running of another 50000 Frcakness
