Rain Drenches Jefferson Park and Allays the Deep Dust My Reverie Takes the Main Race RaceWithout Without Much Trouble Aunt AuntJane Jane First in Her Race NEW ORLEANS La February 20 Heavy showtirs this morning slowed the track at Jefferson Park and converted the going into a condition favoring mud run ¬ ners It was beneficial to the extent that there was an absence of the deep dust that was a feature during last weeks racing While the change in the track conditions caused a reduction in fields it was not hurt ¬ ful to the racing Threatening weather did not prove much of a factor in a reduction of the attendance and a goodly crowd was again on hand to view tha racing racingBackers Backers were successful and jolted the lay ¬ ers heavily by betting on the winners ex ¬ tensively Favorites and second choices vir ¬ tually swept the card the exception coming in the fifth race in which Tony Beau was the victor He was making his debut here and his connections evidently had him primed for a coup for support for him was heavy from the start reducing his price from For some reason Aunt Jane an outstand ¬ ing opening favorite was allowed to recede sharply in the betting on the first race but j the finish found her outstaying A J Buja by a nose Lee Adrin a wellbacked one landed in third place and might have been the winner but for being forced to race through the deepest going goingJim Jim Sanda had been heavily backed in the race but any chance he might have had was ruined when a jam came soon after the start in which he suffered severely severelyGOLDEX GOLDEX FLOSS ALL THE AVAY AVAYGolden Golden Floss was supported to the exclu ¬ sion of the others in the second race and he held sway from the start although pressed hard near the end by the slow beginning but fast gaining Camouflage CamouflageAl Al Stebler benefited by the mud fought it out with Rupee in the third race and won in the last sixteenth with Glabella account ¬ ing for the shorter portion of the purse purseTan Tan Son was a big favorite in the fifth and he started out as if he would spreadeagle the others but after going a half mile in the lead Tony Beau and Tom McTaggart began closing up on him and just before the stretch they passed him and began a spir ¬ ited duel which culminated in the recent ar ¬ rival from Havana winning by a scant length Scourgeman outstayed Tan Son in the final strides for third place placeA A sprint handicap at five and a half fur ¬ longs was the outstanding race and it re ¬ sulted in an easy victory for My Reverie the first she has scored in the Drumheller colors The track was greatly in her favor and she raced in her best style Away slow ¬ ly Murphy kept her on the firmer strip and she moved past the others in the last three eighths and won by nearly two lengths from the outsider Saddle and Boots with Barra ¬ cuda making his initial start in S N Hoi mans colors landing in third place Con ¬ siderable was expected from Blue Nose and Elmer K but both raced poorly and were soundly beaten from the start startCHANGE CHANGE OF HIDE KS HKLFKUIi HKLFKUIiGondolier Gondolier may have been benefited by a change in riders for the horse raced to his best form and outstayed Tody under a hard drive Tody ran forwardly for the entire race and finished well It is doubtful though if either would have finished where they did had Owens used better judgment with Our Birthday He raced him into exhaustion in pacemaking in addition to keeping him in the stiffer going for threequarters resulting in his quitting badly when he reached the stretch Hello Pardner which shared with Our Birthday the most support was never a contender and raced far back all the way wayHello Hello Pardner was claimed for 2500 by J McKcever whose Wylie finished third and Gondolier
