DEVOID OF FEATURE Wednesday Program at Havana Made Up of Claiming Races Miss Mazie Beats Rockabye in Driving Finish Bantam and Ferrum Provide Thriller HAVANA Cuba February 28 The pro ¬ gram today was made up of a series of claiming races three of which were at sprint ¬ ing distances and three over a longer distance of ground The fields in the majority of tho contests were made up or ordinary material and if a feature were intended it was prob ¬ ably the third a dash of threequarters for threeyearolds The field was made up of a wellbalanced band and furnished a good contest the winner turning up in Miss Mazie which beat Rockabye by a scant half length in a driving finish finishMiss Miss Mazie was the last to leave the barrier and worked her way up on the outside fin ¬ ishing with a great stretch run and got up in the last few strides to win going away at the end while Rockabye was tiring Winni ¬ peg was the one to make the pace showing a lot of early speed and drew away into a commanding lead rounding the far turn At the eighth post he began to tire after having a two lengths lead but collapsed at the end and was beaten by a length and a quarter for second place Chile was put out of contention on the turn out of the backstretch where he was in a jam and Burns was forced to pull up upA A stirring finish came with the running of the fourth when Bantam beat Ferrum by a nose The winner worked his way up on tho outside and after entering the homestretch went wide then took the lead at the eighth post but at the end was tiring while Ferrum came again againEASY EASY FOR TAMPER TAMPERTamper Tamper made a runaway of the fifth in which she outran the others to the turn and drew away into a long lead At the end she led Glenn by five lengths The latter was driven hard to beat Hazel W by a neck neckThirteen Thirteen maiden threeyearolds faced the starter in the opening dash Frankenia a firsttime starter was favorite but had the outside post position and after beginning slowly was never i rominent Chow Chow and Midday drew away from the others in the early stages and set a fast pace In the stretch Midday tired and at the eighth post it looked as though Chow Chow would win but he also tired when the final test came and Kentucky Smiles closing with great speed on the outside got up in the final strides to win by the shortest of mar ¬ gins Courtier was third another length away awayCarrie Carrie Moore set a fast pace from the start in the second race and was never headed Both Memphis and Old Sinner made determined efforts to overtake Carrie Moore but she hung on with determination and outlasted the pair in the final drive Necks separated the trio as they passed the judges LuiMeme stumbled and fell at the live eighths post postS S T Baxter has purchased from the Rose dale Stable the horses Queen Mazonia and Brennan BrennanHULLIOX HULLIOX TO KENTUCKY KENTUCKYWilliam William Dondas shipped the horse Bullion to Latonia to be put in training for tho Kentucky spring season seasonG G Smith sold a half interest in the Rock Sand gelding Tan II to his partner P R Perona PeronaL L A Daly received the condition books for the spring racing meeting at Capital Park Columbus Ohio and distributed them among the horsemen There will be no purse less than 500 in value during the meeting meetingLeland Leland H Johannes the banker and S Groos a retail clothing dealer of Green Bay Wis were among the days visitors visitorsAllen Allen Jackson and wife arrived for a brief vacation and were guests at the clubhouse Mr Jackson is a high official of the Standard Oil Company CompanyKdward Kdward L Deschamp a shoe manufacturer of Framingham Mass accompanied by his wife was an interested spectator Other vis ¬ itors from Framingham included J J Mac Xamara P D MacXamara and William Carter CarterSamuel Samuel Connolly the banker and his wife arrived from Port Arthur Out They will remain in Havana for an extended visit visitW W A McKinney has decided to ship his stable comprising of Sun Brae Bill Lane Buddie Kean to Lexington on March 2 2I I J Graham has entered the good maro Eleanor S in the Camden Handicap which will be run during the Lexington spring meeting meetingHarry Harry Hempstead formerly owner of tho New York Giants iccompanied by Mrs Hempstead wan among todays clubhouse guests They are leaving tomorrow for New York
