Unreliable Racer an Easy Victor in the Feature Race Raffles Wins His Second Race of ofthe the Jefferson Park Meeting Sagamore Home First NEW ORLEANS La February 28 Jef ¬ ferson Parks racing this afternoon was fea ¬ tured by a mile and a sixteenth handicap and Blarney Stone which has figured re ¬ peatedly in racing here this winter was again in the limelight This time by virtue of his easy victory and the improved riding that Martin gave him In a preceding race when running gamely and in a contending position Martin took him back resulting in his failure to get a portion of the purse It was a dif ¬ ferent ride that Martin gave him today He was alert at all times and even when Blarney Stone had taken a good lead in the stretch and seemingly was a certain winner the rider persevered and rode him out Auntie May landed in second place and Double Cross fol ¬ lowed lowedServitor Servitor was a lukewarm favorite in the race with good support for all the others it being one of the best betting races of the afternoon Servitor flattered during the first half mile by racing close up to Double Cross and Auntie May but in the last quarter he begain failing fast Blarney Stone with his customary slowness at the outset found his stride after going a half mile and devoured the space between him and Auntie May in rapid fashion heading the Worthington filly just after being straightened away for the stretch drive and taking a good lead in the last eighth Bridesman was a disap ¬ pointment for he was a bad laggard all the way wayThreeyearolds Threeyearolds were again given an op ¬ portunity to display their prowess but over the sprinting distance of threequarters The field included Raffles and John Q Kelly The persistent backing the former received and the receding in odds of Kelly caused a panicky feeling in the ring The betting ba ¬ rometer was a true one and Raffles prac ¬ tically led for the entire race but at the end had to be ridden out to win from Macbeth with Body Guard in third place John Q Kelly was always outrun until reaching the stretch where he closed up some ground groundERRATIC ERRATIC IRISH DREAM FAILS FAILSThe The erratic Irish Dream furnished an added incident to the runaway victory of Spugs in the fifth race Irish Dream was backed in confident style and a shout of glee by his backers came when he began with the leaders and at once took command Their joy was shortlived though for he began running out on the first turn and just after rounding the second turn came in con ¬ tact with the fence and unseated his rider Graham The rider escaped with a shaking up Spugs raced into the lead when Irish Dream ran out and afterward it was a case of hare and hound Spugs drawing away steadily to win by fifteen lengths eased up Repeater overhauled Dumbfounder in the last seventy yards for second place The disap l ontmtnt in the race was Tom Cassidy which followed far back all the way wayCloudy Cloudy weather and a difficult track made poor racing conditions but a big attend ¬ ance journeyed to the course Betting activi ¬ ties were sutlicient to keep thirtyseven lay ¬ ers busy busyTingling Tingling racing in his best form won
