Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of March I 1903 Sunday no racing The veteran turfman and breeder Major G B Thomas has four very promising twoyear olds this year which he has placed in the hands of Frank A Jones the late trainer for George H Whitney at Shsepshead Bay The horses of T C McDowell at Ashland Stud Lexington Ky are being given daily workouts and are showing well AllanaDale last years Kentucky Derby winner has win ¬ tered well and his owner has no doubt that he will stand training the coming season and that he will be a factor in all the big handi ¬ caps on the western turf He does not show any signs of the lameness that made his early retirement from the turf necessary last year Mr McDowell has great faith in AllanaDale as a sire and during his short stud season this year he stood to his famous brood marcd Bracegirdle and Countess Irma
