CUTTING UP FAIR GROUNDS Business Mens Association Will WillFight Fight Proposed Opening of ofStreets Streets Through Track NEW ORLEANS La February 28 John Dymond president of the Business Mens Racing Association has intimated that the association will fight any attempt of the city to open streets that would go through the Fair Grounds GroundsAn An ordinance to open Mystery Encamp ¬ ment and Sauvage streets will be introduced at an early date it was indicated at city hall by finance commissioner Murphy All three streets end at the property line of the Fair Grounds race track and if opened would go through that property cutting the pres ¬ ent race track into three sections eliminat ¬ ing its usefulness as a track trackUtility Utility commissioner Maloney with whom commissioner Murphy consulted said he had petitions for the opening of the streets and intimated that he was in favor of such action actionIt It has long been a doubt in my mind j whether the race track is an asset to the i city and I have been contemplating the j introduction of an ordinance for the open ¬ ing of Mystery street for some time said commissioner Murphy I shall probably do this thisAsked Asked if the proposed ordinance had any ¬ thing to do with the citys attempt to collect 120000 from the Business Mens Racing Association which the city claims is due it for moneys paid for the old Fair Grounds j race track properties now a part of the City Park he said I Not particularly I do not believe the city will ever get any of this money because the racing people were let out by the former administration The territory which the new streets would open up is rapidly developing and the people complain they have no out ¬ let If I introduce the ordinance I propose to go through with it and it will take a lot of facts to convince me that I should vote against it
