INCLEMENT WEATHER 1 And Bad Track Conditions Mar Sport at Churchill Downs. ■ ♦ Two Feature Races Declared Off and Substitute Contests Provided — Three for Corcoran. ♦ LOUISVILLE. Ky.. May 15.— Unusually bad track conditions caused the declaring off of the two indended feature attractions carded for decision at Churchill Downs this afternoon and, to complete the card of seven races, two substituted races were provided. Both fell to the credit of Williams Bros., the double being accounted for by Cromwell and. Napoo. Jockey Corcoran had the mounts. Both showed a decided liking for the going and won by commanding margins. More inclement weather was the rule here today. The rain fell in torrents during the morning and continued until midday when there was a cessation, but intermittent drizzles during the afternoon, accompanied by cold, kept the attendance down. The crowd however, was surprisingly good, considering the weather and track conditions. In the crowd were many visitors from afar who will remain until after the Derby next Saturday. The talent had a fairly prosperous day, judging by the frequency with which the choices came home in advance of their opponents. There was no outstanding race, the opener being th only dash not having claiming clause attachment and it had ,500 added, the biggest of any cf the purses. Gallaher Brothers Tost Haste, a pronounced choice, proved best and taking an advantageous lead at once, showed the way to the others for the entire contest. Guest of Honor landed in second place and Sun Fey was third. Both two-year-old dashes resulted in keenly contested racing. In the first struggle for juveniles J. S. Ward triumphed with his Malt, which beat home the supposed "gocd thing" Nivlag by inches. KENNEDY UNSEATED. The second two-year-old dash brought ■with it the unseating of Kennedy who had the mount on Eventide, the favorite. The filly seemed to have been caught in a jam and lost her rider. Welcome, carrying H. Oots colors, won after a hard drive to outstay Battle Bent, with Frosty Boy, the pacemaker, taking third place. Jupiter, with Eddie Martin, formed a winning combination and led for the entire way in the third race. Major Chilotn, which had been runner up for the greater part, held to second place, beating Rusticator for that position. Cromwell in his race was given some early contention by Monsoon and Old Top, but both gave it up in the stretch, leaving the winner to reach the finish unattended. Old Top passed Monsoon in the final sixteenth. Napoo indulged Last Effort with the lead until straightened out fully in the stretch run, when be came away to win with ease. Reel Foot, at long odds, wore down Last Effort for second place. Megan, one well considered, refused to start and was left. Jockey Corcoran made it three victories for the day when he brought home Normal in the linal dash. He had to display his best riding skill to win out by a half length from the erratic Rib Grass, which was pressing the winner closely at the finish after he had tried to run out repeatedly. Uncle Velo finished third. The stewards left the interference incident in abeyance until tomorrow, when they will interrogate some of the riders and fix responsibility for Kennedy being unseated from Eventide. ♦
