I JUDGE NELSON GOES WEST Judge Francis Nelson and his wife passed through Chicago yesterday en route, ultimately, to Tijuana. His immediate point of destination is San Francisco. There, besides taking in the sights of the city of the Golden Gate, he will inspect the features and peculiarities of the betless Tanforan meeting. That done, he will go to San Diego to await the time when he must resume his duties at Tijuana. Judge Nelson viewed the race between Zev and Papyrus at Belmont Park. His general impression of the race was that it determined nothing as to the comparative abilities of the two fine colts, except that Zev was infinitely better in American mud. Papyrus did not wear mud plates and seemed scared and afraid to extend himself, as he slipped in the unfamiliar going. Before the race trainer Jarvis pronounced the opinion that Papyrus was at least a stone below his Derby form, which probably was entirely true. Judge Nelson and Mrs. Nelson are going west thus early in order to have a play time while touring about through Southern California.
