, AU REVOIR FOR ZEV Rancocas Champion Makes His Final Appearance This Year. Easily Accounts for Pimlico Serial Weight-for-Age Race at One Mile and an Eighth. BALTIMORE, Md., Nov. 8 Zev, the greatest of money winning thoroughbreds in the history of the American turf, made his final bow for the 1923 racing season this afternoon at Pimlico when he was a cantering winner of the Pimlico Serial Weight-for-Age Race over the mile and an eighth distance. The conqueror of Papyrus was only opposed by H. Altermans Homestretch, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Scott P. Harlans Tryster, winner of all three Serial Weight-for-Age Races of last year. These were utterly unable to make the brown colt fully extend himself and his final victory for the year was indeed an easy one. It was a bright day for the sport, but with a bit of sting in the air. The crowd was a big one and the entertainment excellent In addition to the final appearance of Zev for the year there was the Monkton Steeplechase over the three-mile course that brought another victory to the Cosden silks when Fas-kadale, the homely little gelding, carried Norman Kennedy home in front of J. E. Wideners Houdini. A three-quarters handicap for all ages was another of the offerings, and while the other races were for horses of less quality they offered an interesting setting for the big events. In the mile and an eighth Pimlico Serial Weight-for-Age race that fell to Zev, it was Tryster that set the pace and Sanda had the Rancocas Stables champion under double wraps back of him and the ordinary pace permitted Homestretch to be closer to the front than is usual in his races. Before the run through the backstretch was completed Tryster began to weaken and at the same time Homestretch closed up with a great rush. But Sande had Zev under restraint and when he loosened a wrap the brown dashed away into a good lead and at the end he was only cantering. After the finish Lang worked Homestretch out a full mile and five-eighths and it was his final preparation for his engagement tn the two and a quarter miles of the Pimlico Cup to be run Monday. The son of Bard of Hope finished out this long journey in impressive fashion and no doubt remains of his readiness for his big engagement ANOTHER FOR FASKADALE. As usual William Garth continues to dominate the steeplechase and little Faskadale, the narrow waisted but big hearted imported jumper, added another to his score when he stuck it out for the three mile course and outgamed sturdy old Houdini. Roi Craig was the one to cut out the pace and Norman Kennedy rated Faskadale along alter him, with Minata and The Trout not far away and Dolly Byers had Houdini galloping along at a hunting pace back of the others. All five of the horses were jumping , well and for the first turn of the courso there was no change in the running positions. The Trout was the first one to show signs of weakening and as he began to falter Houdini moved up slightly, but Roi Craig was still going strongly in the lead and little Faskadale was well under restraint as. he hold to second place. In the front field the last turn of the course Ferguson moved with Minata and the old gelding dashed up on the outside until he seemed to have a real chance. The move was made a bit early, but the old fellow was going exceedingly well until he stumbled so badly at a back field fence that Ferguson was unseated. By this time Byers had moved with Houdini and he was in third place. But Faskadale had closed up on Roi Craig and though the Greentree Stable cast-off was going along gamely it was evident that the Cosden jumper had him beaten. Byers was driving Houdini and the old gelding was responding resolutely when ho was bothered by the loose running Minata. Finally Byers found clear sailing and he wore down the tiring Roi Craig, -but Faskadale still had plenty left and he held the winter campaigner safe the rest of the way. AXXAPOLIS TO FLIXTSTONE. The Annapolis Handicap, for all ages, furnished a good contest when John E. Mad-dens Flintstone slipped through next to , the inside rail in the stretch to be winner from II. C. Fishers two-year-old fully Nellie Morse, with Robert L. Gerrys Cyclops a fast closing third, ahead of J. K. L. Ross Feylance. Wildrake, Nellie Morse and Flinstone were ! the ones to cut out the pace, with Feylanca 1 a close third. Cyclops began a bit slowly Continued on twelfth page. It was there tnat Sande moved on the outside with Cyclops and the result was that he lost a lot of ground. Thurber chose the inside with Flintstone and it was that that gave the Madden gelding his winning opportunity. Nellie Morse fought it out gamely, but Flint-stone was down in lime to beat her a head, while Cyclops was just a length and a half further away. It is probable that Cyclops was the best of the field, but the ground that he lost in the running gave him scant chance for victory. There was a big field of cheap ones went to the pest in the three-quarters of the fifth race and Whalebone, after beginning well, was good enough to dominate the running and lead home Bucado and Care Free. J. F. Richardsons Top Sergeant was winner of the mile and seventy yards that was the sixth offering. He was well ridden by Sande and it was in marked contrast to tho ride that Sande gave Cyclops, when he was guilty of several mistakes. In this race Rejection and Gondolier were the ones to make most of the pace, but they both tired and Sande worked his way through with Top Sergeant and, coming away in tho stretch, he readily outstayed Rejection and Blue Hawk. There were fourteen selling plater two-year-olds that made up the field for the three-quarters dash that was the opening race and F. E. Rodgers Ebony Belle, under a well timed ride by Me A tee, was winner from Mrs. A. E. Alexandras Prince Hamlet, with Henry "Watersons Aggravating Papa the one to be third. Nixia was the one to cut out the pace and was closely followed by Roman Girl and Sun Lady. Ebony Belle was away well enough and McAfee wisely rated her along through the early running, for tho daughter of Dick Fjnnell is not famed for her courage. Ho timed his move perfectly and when the leaders began to tire at the head of the stretch, he circled around them with Ebony Hello and, sending her to the front in the last eighth, had her homo winner by a length. Prince Hamlet was far back in the early stages and closed resolutely to take second place from Aggravating Papa, which was also going well at the end.
