Under the subscription scheme, approved by that body, a number of jumpers of good class and reputation were purchased in Ireland. All these animals come from families which have been succesful on the English and Irish turf, particularly in steeplechases and hurdle races; many of them showed good form on the flat. Some of them, notably Shining Bachelor, Monkshood and Ness, were winning races in Ireland practically a few days prior to shipment The consignment is not quite as repre-t sentative as could have been wished since two other horses purchased in Ireland met with slight mishaps a week or so before they were to be shipped. These mishaps were merely of a temporary character.
