RETIRE ZEV AND SARAZEN BALTIMORE, Md., Nov. 8. Two champions of the year have gone into retirement for the 1923 racing season. These are the Rancocas Stables Zev, the greatest money winner in the history of the American turf, and Mrs. W. K. Vanderbiits unbeaten two-year-old gelding Sarazen. Zev will be shipped to the farm to rest for the cold months, while Max Hirsch has decided that he will point the gelding for the Kentucky Derby. There was a hope that Wise Counsellor and Sarazen would be brought together this month, but that is all gone now. They will undoubtedly come together in the Derby next spring, for that is the goal J. S. Ward has decided upon for his fast colt. Sarazen will be made ready for the three-year-old campaign at Belmont Park.
