Grettons Rugeley, four-year-olds chestnut gelding by Rossendale — Roya, won the Chester Cup at Chester this afternoon from Lord Derbys Sierra Ieone, Sir Henry Lawsons Miwani was third. i Rainy weather failed to prevent an enormous crowd from turning out for the sport but the sticky- going had some effect on the size of the fields. Thirteen horses started in the Chester Cup l with Scullion the favorite. Leach saved Rugeley behind the pacemaker until the field turned into the straightaway. The gelding rushed into the lead when called upon and won in a canter by three lengths. He was favored by the going and by his light impost of N pounds. Sierra Leone, under 103 pounds, ! beat Miwani, which carried 113, by six lengths for second place. Following is a summary of the race. F.
