J. WIDENER BUYS ALTAWOOD ALTA WOOD LATONIA, Ky., Oct. 17. Joseph E. Widencr added a potential racing star to his extensive establishment when he secured from C. Bruce Head, the sterling three-year-old Altawood. The purchase price of the horse was not divulged but is said to be a high figure. By the purchase,- the son of Master Robert continues in the charge of trainer G. II. Keens, who developed him, for that shrewd horseman enters the employ of Mr. WIdener, as trainer of his famed establishment. Altawood is regarded by horsemen as one of the best of all long-distance racers in the country. His performance in the Latonia Cup, at twa miles and a quarter, bordered on the sensational and his last quarter dasri in twenty-four seconds brought about My Plays defeat. Altawood is engaged in some of tho long-distance races that are yet to be decided in Maryland aud it was the original intention to send him there to fill these engagements, but J the change in ownership may also bring about a change of these plans. Trainer Keeno will winter a part of the Widencr horses at Churchill Downs and will probably include Altawood.
