WINNERS AT YOUNGSTOWN First Pullets Success Popular Peter Combs and Havana Electric in Easy Victory. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Oct 17. Some interesting racing was witnessed here this afternoon. The Golden West Stables Cannon-ball was returned an easy winner in the opening race, a dash of five-eighths. Murphy showed the way to the stretch and then tired, and Cannonball drew away easily, with Kel-neth beating the tiring Murphy for second place. Ethel H., an even-money choice, met with some interference and finished unplaced. Mascarita accounted for the two-year-old purse, second on the program, in handy fashion. The winner gradually wore down La Belle and, getting to the front midway of the stretch, held the latter safe thereafter. La Belle held on well to be second, with Sandpile a fast-going third. The public choice, Peter Combs, made a show of his opponents in the third, taking command soon after the start and never being in danger of defeat thereafter. Forty Two was always closest to the leader and easily held the others safe, with Whispering beating Miss Holland for the show portion of the purse. Havana Electric made every post a winning one in the fourth. The winner was closely attended by Lasses White in the early running, but shook him off and had no trouble- thereafter. Kendall closed with a belated rush, to be second, while Lasses White was third. First Pullet, piloted by the diminutive J. Jones scored a popular verdict in the fifth " race. The son of Cock o the Walk moved up to Castilla, the pacemaker, with a rush after going five-eighths and, taking the lead, kept increasing his advantage to the end. Castilla held on gamely, to save second place from Locust Leaves. S. I. Bender announced today that ten JJiree-dbor steel cars would leave here for Havana, Cuba, on November 3, and are due to arrive in the Cuban city November 6. B. Thayer claimed Acosta out of the sec ond race yesterday for 00.
