RICH L ATOM A CHAMPIONSHIP STAKES TODAY 9 V5 SIX NAMED FOR POPULAR FIXTURE Chilhowee Hope of West Mad Play, Aga Khan and Priscilla Ruley a Formidable Trio of Eastern Stars After the Valuable Prize LATONIA, Ky., Oct. 17. Six highly-rated three-year-olds, now at the zenith of their form and thoroughly seasoned, have been named to contest the sixth running of the valuable Latonia Championship Stakes, which will furnish a brilliant feature to the wind-up of the present successful Latonia meeting, Saturday afternoon. These sterling racers will battle over the trying route of a mile and three-quarters for one of. the richest prizes offered three-year-olds this year. With such cracks as Chilhowee, Mad Play, Aga Khan, Priscilla Ruley, Flames and Graeme as the prospective starters, the race promises to be a memorable contest and with the Latonia track in its present perfect condition the record of 2 :55 for the distance, hung up by Rockminister when he annexed the stake two years ago, is in danger of being lowered. The easterners hold a powerful hand, in four out of the six starters, with the Belair Stud having three of the number, Aga Khan, Priscilla Ruley and Flames. They form a formidable combination. The westerners are represented by Chilhowee and Graeme, and will pin their faith in the first named, which in all probability will go to the post favorite. The Gallaher Bros, colts record-breaking performance of last Tuesday will attract to his standard a host. of supporters. Latonia Championship Field P.P. Horse. "Wt. Owner. Jockey. The Belair Studs entries which have only been here a short time, are all in fine condition, and their trainer, Jim Fitzsimmons, is hopeful that they will all race creditably. Chilhowee was the only one of the candidates to be given a pretentious trial Friday morning. The son of Ballot, without being extended, worked a mile in 1 :39, going the half in 47 and the three-quarters in 1:13. Trainer Gallaher announced after the work that his colt was fit and ready. On the basis of six starters, the gross value of the stake will be ?34,525. After deducting second, third and fourth moneys and nominators fees, the winners net portion will amount to 5,935. Last year the Latonia Championship was won by In Memoriam, which beat Zev in one of the most notable struggles in Kentucky turf annals.
