NEW ORLEANS 5,000 RACE To Be Known as New Orleans Handicap, Distance 1. 1-16 Miles, Date February 7. NEW ORLEANS, La., Nov. 1. With a view of bringing to New Orleans Americas turf stars, officials of the Business Mens Racing Association announced today that a new 5,000 stake would be offered during the winter racing season here at the Fair Grounds, for three-year-olds and over. The race is to" be known as the New Orleans Handicap, at one mile and a sixteenth and will be run on Saturday, February 7, 1925. The following official statement was given out: "The New Orleans Business Miens Racing Association, with a view of bringing to New Orleans the best horses in training in the United States and Canada, has opened a stake to be known as the New Orleans Handicap, at one mile and a sixteenth, with a guaranteed value of f 25,000, to be run on February 7, 1925. The entrance fee and starting fee has been made so small that there is no doubt that practically every horse in training of any class in the late fall will be entered in this stake. "This is the first time a stake of that value has been offered at any wjnter race tracks in the United States, and the progressive spirit of the Business Mens Racing Association is certain to receive a hearty response from tho breeders and horsemen of the country. The late closing of the stake on January 1 will insure that practically every horse that is in training for the winter racing will be entered and the publication of weights ten days before the race will insure a large field of the highest quality." In addition to the 525,000 to the winner of the New Orleans Handicap, the horse finishing second will take down 53,000, the third horse ,500 and the fourth 00.
