EPINARD SAILS FOR FRANCE French Champion Departs for Home in Charge of Trainer Eugene Leigh. NEW YORK, N. Y., Nov. 5. Pierre Wert-heimers Epinard and his American trainer, Eugene Leigh, sailed for France on the Berengaria today at noon. With the French in-A-ader Avent Satin Slipper, the filly that accompanied him to this country and two brood mares from Major August Belmonts Nursery Stud, Quelle Chance and Hour Hand. Satin Slipper is noAV the property of Hamilton Farm but her new owners arranged for her to be mated in the spring Avith Epinard. The Belmont mares Avill also be bred to the son of Badajoz Epine Blanche. Pete, the airedale which came here with Epinard, Avas also a member of the party. He was assigned to guard a pile of fodder and Avhen two longshoremen approached too close to his post he showed his disapproval by biting them. The disturbance that followed caused trainer Leigh to miss several of his friends who went to the pier to see him off.
