CHICAGO SPECIAL ENTRIES I » Nominations Received for 0,000 Added Weight-for-Age Race. ♦ Sarasen, Altawood, Mod llai, Chllhowcc and Other Stars Antony Prospective Starters on Angus* 22. . i The Chicago Business Mens Racing Asso- 1 ciation made public today the list of entries I In the Chicasro Special at weight-for-age, j one mile and three-sixteenths to be run at Hawthorne on Saturday, August 22. The entries are a remarkable demonstra- , tlon of the healthy condition of the turf at i the present time when a weight-for-age race will attract 02 entries. It shows that we arc , breeding mere horses of class than ever in , the history of the American turf. A few,, years ago such a race would have attracted . not to exceed twenty-five entries and while many of the entries would seem on present , form to be outclassed, there are no complimentary entries in the race and owners , must have an abiding faith in the expected development of their horses. The race Is particularly gratifying to the management and that the event has found a sympathetic response was demonstrated during General Manager Murphys trip to New York and ! j 1-itonia where many of the owners of high j class horses promised that they would ship, | them to Hawthorne for the event if their j j entries were in condition at the time. I The appearance of Sarazen. the prospective I I champion of the year, was definitely prom- j . ised should the horse be in active training. Among the older horses entered in the event j are Princess Doreen, Spot Cash. Senator Norris, Shuffle Along. Beau Butler, nil-j howee. Stanwix, Wise Councellor, Sarazen. Cherry Pie, Little Celt, Osprey. General Thatcher. Mad Play, Altawood, Transmute and others. Practically all of the high class ■ three-year-olds of the year are also in the event and the race promises as sensational a contest as last year when Giblon and Princess Don-en finished noses apart in one of the most thrilling stretch duels in the history of Chicago racing.
