Ohio, June 13. — By the shortest possible margin M. J. OLearys Fancy Free annexed the Berea Handicap, the fifth and feature attraction of the half holiday card at Brooklyn Park this after-! noon. Joe Coopers Pud was second and [Winnipeg secured the short end of the ,030 purse. Jockey J. Dillea sent Pud into the lead at once. My Valet and Scare Crow were, in closest pursuit for the first three-quarters. Fancy Free then challenged and gained steadily under a powerful finish by DeHow. Winnipeg after following in the early stages, easily disposed. of the others in the last quarter and was a bang up third. The sun was overcast throughout the after-! noon but rain failed to materialize and the largest crowd of the meeting was on hand. An accident marred the running of the initial race. As tlv horses reached the stretch turn George D. Caw was closing up strongly on the inside when he scumbled and fell with Jockey C. Phillips. Golden Maiden fell over the prostrate colt and Jockey F. Seremba who had the mount suffered a broken arm. Phillips was fortunate in escaping with a shaking up. The winner turned up in Gen. Glnocklo which after a keen stretch struggle beat Se.hs Premium home by a narrow margin. Florianka closed a wide gap to be third. Boosting was the early lender. Faber showed the way at all stages of the second race, but at the end was hard pressed to sta.l off the fast closing Melvina. Omega outstayed Rock Court for the short end of the purse after the latter had raced close up to the stretch. Taking command after going the first half mile of the third race. Little Betty was never in trouble thereafter. Kentucky Rose always held the others safe. Lotto could never improve her position but finished third. Mary Maxim made every post a winning lone in the fourth race and was never in serious trouble. Reap went into the lead after going the first half mile of the sixth race and drew away into a commanding lead in the stretch. Jockey II. Paden was caught napping on John Hosher near the end and Gem closing with a- rush nipped him for second place in the final stride. Dextrose tired badly after a poor send off. Dalton, the second favorite to score durirg the afternoon, overhauled Hughes Graham in the stretch and scored a handy victory over him in the seventh.
