IN RUNAWAY FASHION « Beatrice Noyes Easily Captures the Admiration Purse. • Seven of Eleven Starters in Second Race Closely Grouped at End, Mabel C. Winning. • HAYPwK DK TRACE. Md.. April 22 — Peatrice Noyes displayed another winning performance today when she made a runaway of the fourth race, the Admiration Purse tor two-year-olds, the feature race. Chalmers got her off in front and before they hud gone an eighth she opened up a lead of three lengths on her opponents. At no stage of the race was the result in doubt, although Chalmers shook the leader up a bit at the eighth post. At the end she had a two lengths lead over Scat, one of the Whitnev pair, which in turn beat Dexter by a head for second place. Scat finished like a good colt. Slow to begin, he dropped out of it in the early stages, but in the drive through the home stretch he finished fast, and at the end was going fastest of all. Wandering Times, under a hard ride, tirin-agid t win the first race when he beat Sparkling AYater by a head. It was a desperate drive from the betid of the stretch to the judges stand. Wandering Times left the barrier faster than Sparkling Water and Mundea kept at her all the way. Entering the home stretch Sparkling Water came through on the inside while Hathaway went a bit wide. The latter made a desperate attempt at the eighth post and was in front for a few strides. Wandering Times and Mundea would not give up. however, and I leans filly, coming again, proved best of the trio. Theresa Joan started a bit slowly and went wide for the entire race. Under the circumstances she ran a good race. MUNDKVS GOOD FINISH. It is remarkable the number of close finishes at Havre de Grace. In the second race seven of the eleven starters passed the winning mark in a compact bunch. The winner was Mabel C. She was ridden by the clever apprentice Munden. and in a sinew straining drive outstayed Scorcher hy a neck. Mabel .. a factor from the start, raced Harrow into defeat, and when the latter retired she had enough left to stall off Scorchers challenge. Maclean was third, a head back, and then came Watts, beaten by a head for the short end of the purse. Strut Miss Lizzie, which finished fifth, came from far back sail at the end was racing fastest of all. She left slowly, raced wide and went much further than any-horse in the race. With any sort of luck she might have won. Sweep-Xet scored the first victory for the Seagram stable at the Maryland, tracks this spring when she beat Foreland by a length in the third race. Last year Sweep-Net was rated the next best youngster in Unstable to iaffsman atid in some of her trials showed sensational speed. As a matter of fact it was thought at one time that she could beat C.affsman. In her race today which was her first effort of the year, she started well and in the first quarter raced the speedy Oblique into defeat. Rounding the far turn she shook off her opponents and entering the home stretch had a three lengths lead. Iick of condition told in the final eighth and she tired. Pourassa kept at her and she lasted long enough to win. Brush By was third, beaten by a head for second place. BALBOA A IHSAIMMMM MFM. BaBjoa proved a disappointment in the fifth race when he was beaten by half a length by Arbitration. The winner came from behind, and in the stretch finished with a rush. Stott was unable to keep him up in the early stages, and it was not until after they had raced half a mile that be began to gain on the leaders. Balboa Was a keen factor from the start and had a lot taken out of him racing Diagram and Modo into submission in the early racing Entering the home stretch he made a wide turn and this cost him the race. After several disappointing efforts. Gray Gables finally made good when he won the sixth race. Darnes got him off with the leaders and rated him in behind Paddle until straightened out in the home stretch where h. moved up In the final eighth he shook off the others and at the finish won going away from Dernier Sou. The latter had an inside post position and was shuffled back n.-ar the first turn, where he dropped out of it. Chalmers took him to the outside rounding the far turn and after going wide entering the home stretch he finished fast and in the final drive got u to l eat PadShS by a head. The Steeplechase course at Pimlico will he thrown opes on Saturday and there will he a big audience on hand to see the jumpers schooled. Dick Miller has Cloudland and five of the .1. S. Cosdea two-year-olds at Aqueduct getting them ready for a campaign on th« metropolitan circuit.
