TORONT Ont Canada Slay 22 Today is Kings Plate day at Woodbine Eigjiteen of the best Canadianbreds that liavc been shown in Ontario in recent years arc pro ¬ grammed to go to the post in this famous old race They represent the cream of the youngsters that have been in training at the Ontario Jockey Clubs course this spring All of the prominent Canadian sportsmen have representatives in the race and as usual the powerful Seagram Stable will likely furnish the favorite Horses bred at Water ¬ loo always have a large following followingWoodbine Woodbine Park never looked more attrac ¬ tive than it does just now The manage ¬ ment has done its part in providing an attractive program and the opening should be a brilliant one Todays race marks the sixtyseventh running of the Kings Plate which by the way is the oldest racing fix ¬ ture run in North America Besides the Plate additional attractions are the Helter Skelter Steeplechase of 2000 added and the Victoria Stakes for twoyearolds with 5000 added The program is a diversified one There is a sprint handicap in which some of the fastest horses in training at the Woodbine are named to start there are two races for twoyearolds one of which is for Canadianbreds exclusively tind the several events are interspersed with races over a distance of ground groundENTRIES ENTRIES OF QUALITY QUALITYOne One thing noticeable in the entries is quality Taking the program as a criterion of what is to come patrons of the Woodbine have some good sport in store for them There are more and better racers on the grounds than have been here for several years and with the horsemen liberal in mak ¬ ing entries the meeting should be most suc ¬ cessful cessfulInterest Interest in the racing tomorrow afternoon will of course center in the running of the Kings Platel With all of the talk of the trials of the different candidates and the flattering reports sent in by the horde of dockers that have been out at the course every morning watching every move of their particular favorite enthusiasm is pretty well worked up among race goers The Seagram Stable and J C Fletcher both have named three to go to the post and the Riverdale Stable and Charles Millar have entered two each Some of those owned by less promi ¬ nent sportsmen have shown up particularly well and a surprise may be furnished by one of them The unexpected sometimes happens and this is what makes the sport so exhi ¬ larating laratingThe The track is in excellent condition the grounds brushed up and the lawns and in ¬ field as smooth as a billiard table with their bright covering of fresh green closely cropped grass With Lake Ontario in the back ground the course is one of the most pictur ¬ esque in Canada All that remains to make the opening a most brilliant occasion is pleas ¬ ant weather Predictions have been made that the gathering will be the largest that ever witnessed a Kings Plate run at this famous racing ground groundCATERS CATERS TO STEEPLECIIASIJTC tives here this spring to participate in these events The Queen City Stable is here with their entire string the Laurel Park Stud have sent up some and Warren B Tucker man and J K Macomber are also represent ed Others include the Ludgate Farm Lynn mere Stable the Greentree Stable the Se wickley Stable C L Whiting W G Wilson and Richard Pending PendingT T J Healey is sending up Wilderness and eight of the W T Salmon horses to increase the division of the stable he shipped from Pimlico direct to the AVoodbine Wilderness is coming to fill his engagements in the Toronto Cup The plans are for jockey Maiben to come up to ride Wilderness in the Cup but in the event of anything turning up to upset these plans P Walls will have the mount on Mr Wilsons good horse horseAnother Another racer that is being sent up from New York to start in the Cup is C R Fleischmanus Bott Chaib Mothers Son General Thatcher Goldbeater Punjab Edisto Harrovian Joy Smoke and Backbone are some others that have had a special prep for the cup cupSeveral Several horses were taken sick en route from Maryland here One of them Prince of Power died this morning and another Red Rocket is in a bad way Prince of Power was one of the best in Mrs I A Living ¬ stons string while Red Rocket was a stake winner on the Maryland circuit this spring springT T J Healey was anxious to send Display the Preakness winner to Toronto to start in the cup but when that colt carne out of the Kentucky Derby badly cut up about the legs he was forced to change his plans The Salmon Stable which will be raced in Canada this summer will be one of the strongest on the Canadian Racing Associations circuit
