OMAHA ATTENDANCE LARGE Great Gathering Sees Brilliant Win the Omaha Handicap in Track Record Time. OMAHA. N h„ .luno It.— P.rilliant, from Xbf staMe of W. J. Potter, won the ,500 Omaha Handicap, which was the feature at Ak-Sar-Hoii field this afternoon and. in doing so. emialkd the track record of 1 :44 for a mile and seventy yards, which was formerly held by Quaver. Hen Jones Trince Tii Tii and B, Creechs lloc-kford were second and third respectively and were but noses behind thf winner at the end. The finish was one of the most exciting of the meeting and had the large gathering on its feet cheering wildly for their favorite, as all three which passed the finishing line logether were all well backed. The trio of successful ones were outrun in the first part of the contest, but closed up strongly and vcre game to the score at the end. Rock-ford, although he only got the small part of the purse, was probably the best horse, us he was shuffled back at the first turn and came very wide in the stretch. The crowd, which witnessed the afternoons R- ort. was one of the largest which ever attended an afternoons racing in Omaha, and the letting enclosure was a seething mass or humanity most of the afttrnoon. The day was ideal for the sport, and the track was fast Kitit fair sprinters went to the post in the f i st race and Orescent was the winner. She took command soon after the start and, although Joe Tag raced in close attendance all the way. he was unable to head her and she scored by a half length. Jo- Tag was second .ai:d My Oncfe finished third. Joe Tag was claimed by Ii. Fouts for V.»00. Mr. Fouts had an open ciaim. he having lost his only horse via the claiming route the other day. Hig Sapp led for practically the entire distinct in the second race. He was hustled ■teas by jockey George Williams and did not falter though he was a trifle- tired at the end. GoUan Ked got up in time to take second place by a nose from Ring. Publisher was the best f nine good short distance horses that competed in the third race, which was at three-quarters. The winner was off in the center of the bunch, but before the quarter was passed was in second place and within striking distance of Judge Pryor. the pacemaker. He easily passed this one when ready and pulled away into a four lengths lead, which he retained. Queen Oath erine was a fast going second and Riviera m a game race to be third. Judge Pryor qidt badly and was unplaced. Martin Thorpe, which has been given I 1 ng lest, made a good comeback when he won the fourth and paid long odds. Pine crest was second. Ruddy third and Martin 1. the favorite, fourth. •
