H. P. WHITNEY DOUBLE ♦ His Popular Colors First in Aqueduct Dual Features. ♦ Macaw Takes the Queens County Handicap and Wichmount the Hudson Stakes. NEW YORK, N. T.. June 19.— It was a real H. P. Whitney clay at Aqueduct Saturday when, after Wichmount was winner of the Hudson Stakes. Macaw followed it up by taking the Queens County Handicap. These were the features of a particularly entertaining holiday program that brought out a tremendous crowd. The weather was delightful and the track at its best. In the Queens County. Dangerous was the only overnight nomination that did not put in an appearance at post time, leaving eight to race, and it was considered rather an open race. Quatrain, startirrg for the first time under the silks of the Creentree Stable, was given the outside position though he had drawn number three. As a result, this bad actor was off flying with his company and no longer can an excuse be offered for his showing. At the end of the fast run mile, in which Macaw carried all the pace. Navigator was second, two lengths back of the son of Peter Pan. and right at th; heels of the three-year-old e-anre the Rancocas Stables Nedana nosing out Sirrgle Koot. the Brooklyn Handicap winner, for third place. Quatrain actually started in frotrt. but McAtee rushtd Macaw to such good advantage that irr the first sixte-enth he had taken j the lead, never to surrender it. lie- raced to the first quarter post in :2:i. the half in :4G and the three-epiarters in 1 :104f,. a pace that was calculated to keep him in the van. Quatrain and Navigator, the Creentree Stable pair, went along second and third, white Xedana, when Kator tried to send her through next to the inside rail, was so badly shut off that he had to take up. losliv; several lengths. Single Koot raced along three lengths back of the leaders and then came Mirado-. while Sun Pal and Serralado were- distant followers. Ql A TRAIN DROPS BACK. There was little change in these positions as the horses swung for home-. McAtee made a good turn into the Straight and shortly thereafter Quatrain had enough and he-dropped OUt of the contention. Then it was : that Kator made another inoe to come through on the- inside with Nedana arrd again lie ran into trouble. McAtee did not prop. Wt i to have any horse- come through on the inside of Macaw and when he closed the gap there Kator was forced to pull from the- rail. | In the meantime Navigator- was banging OO gamely, though making up no gr Hod on ; Macaw, while- Singh- Koot was racing Strongly back of the thre.-ye-ar-old. Single Koot Just faiu-d to teat Nedana for third, but as the- race- was run the Rancocas filly would eurei have- been s.- sond, But for her many Misfortunes she woud have compelled Macaw to run faster than 1 ~, t he-! home- the winner. I he stake wis worth | .l"iO to the winner and Pony McAtee share-d j in the Whtrie double when he rode both ! Wic hrnourit ei d Macaw. WHITNEY DOUBLE Continued from first pnge maiden two-year-olds. Walter M. Jeffords Doubloon took second place and John K. Maddens Ropes End beat the others. The start was a good one and the placed horses dominated most of the running. Doubloon was a bit green and going to the elbow of the course he dropped back slightly, but came again and was going well at the end. Ropes End showed an excellent turn of speed while Broomoney saved ground all the way and ran a greatly improved race over his other starts. The steeplechase of the day was under selling conditions and J. Maidias Amstello, with a ten-pound advantage, by reason of being ridden by R. Lane-aster, who had never ridden a winner through the field, was home first, beating Conniebert, from the Greentree Stable, and Mrs. EL Dattners Henry Dattner finishing third. Three of the starters failed to finish, when Speedy Prince unshipped T. Morgan the second turn of the field, while both Vox Iopuli II. and Myndon Mount were pulled up when hopelessly beaten. St. Lawrence was the one to cut out the pace for a turn of the course, but Conniebert was never far away, and Kangaroo through the early raring showed some becoming speed, while Henry Dattner was under wraps and well back from the lead. Conniebert made rather a bad landing at the way. but safely over. Marsters shook her up and she went into command, St. Lawrence having tired of the pacemaking. Then, in the back field, Amstello was roused by-Lancaster and he was soon close after the mare. By this time the field was well strung out and the others were- blundering along, with scant chance of taking any serious part in the finish. Conniebert and Amstello had it between themselves for the last five-eighths and there I was some close riding three fences from home, but at the last fence Amstello was on the extreme outside of the course, with the ; mare in the middle. They were lapped over I that last fence and. in the drive home. Amstello proved to have more left. Henry Dattner was dosing some ground when too late, to finish third, while Kangaroo tired badly and dropped back. The others trailed along far out of the contest. After the finish there was some questioning of the riders before the result was made official, but the order was not disturbed by the stewards. The companion feature to the Queens County Handicap was the Hudson Stakes, a five-eighths dash for juveniles. This brought a Whitney victory, when Witchmount led from end to end to beat the Greentree Stables Saxon, and Revolver, from the Glen Kiddle Farm Stable, was alOBg to take third from antankerous, the stablemate of Saxon. There was a delay of five mnutes. but the start was a good one, anil McAtee ouickly ■tepped into the lead with Witchmount and. setting a hot pace, he kept the colt straight. and the resuM was never s. ri-jusly in doubt. ! Saxon hung on well under punishment, while Revolver, a well made s-.n of Man o War. eame with a rush on the inside that suggests hs doing better when in- knows more of racing. Iraconis and False Pride both disappointed I in the running and at no time figured proaa-, iti ntly. The race was worth |S,M5 to the winner. Cheap ones met in the fifth rate at one mile and Clarence Ituxtons Calumet proved much the best vvli-n he led bona Margaret St. L. by a wide margin. Margaret St. L. sraa th.- one to CVt out all tin early pace but We in r was contest to rat- along back of that pace with Calumet aial in the stretch he came away without any trouble to win in a catlap. Margaret St. l. readily saved seeoad place while Lady Raglan, after racing farwardly throughout, was fourth. Belphrisoaia was a real disappointment. She was particularly ■luggl-li in the early racing and while she chsed some ground eras never dece to the contention
