SENSATIONAL DERBY WORK Hydromel Goes Mile in 1:40% — Bewithus in 1:41% — General Haldeman in 1:41%. LEXINGTON, Ky.. April 23.— Showing the fastest Kentucky Derby trial of the western training season, J. N. Camdens Hydromel negotiated the distance in 1 :4"*; OVer a good track here this morning. The chestnut son of Bight Brigade and Honeydew was going nicely, yet rather fully extended as he finished out the ground, but more vigorous urging from jockey B. McDermott would have resulted in even greater speed from this promising candidate. Noreaster was his pacemaker for the three-quarters and they reeled off the first quarter in :2?,3i, : half in :47 and three-quarters in 1 :13. Noreaster was nothing like a good match for Hydromel and he was eased up after three-quarters. Senator Camden witnessed the trial. 10. B. Bradleys Bewithus also turned in a creditable work and, like Hydromel. labored before his proud owner. Bewithus, in company with Barrabas, ran one mile in 1 :41%a the second and best trial the former Kentucky Derby eligible has shown at the | local track. He was vanned in from Mr. • Bradleys Idle Hour Farm especially for his speed trial by H. J. "Dick" Thompson. The colt went at an even gait in the following fractions: :25»i, :." 0*s ; lilt% and 1 :41-5. He was going handily throughout and finished with something in reserve. Turquoise and Ortlieb. E. J. Hollands two eligibles for the Churchill Downs prize, went to the track together and rattled off three-quarters of a mile in 1 :15%, both under light driving at the end. General Haldeman continued toward top form by doing a mile in 1:41%, accomplishing the task quite handily. The fractions were :23" r,, :4T and 1:14. The Cold Stream Barms Hedge turned five-eighths in 1 :04Vii breezing easily, and Comrade a half mile in :52. They are programmed for longer trials tomorrow.
