LATEST DERBY WORKOUTS Candy Queen and Royal Julian Gallop Full Distance — Fred Jr. Goes Mile and an Eighth. LOCISVILLK, Ky., May 3.— Trainers of Derby candidates were up with the lark and busy with their respective candidates which were scheduled to perform in Derby trials. Candy Queen, the Archibald filly, and Royal Julian, the Whitehouse colt were worked the full Derby distance. The former went it in 2 :11 and the latter in 2 :12, while FVed Jr.. the S. W. Grant colt, was easing up a mile and one eighth in 1 :56%. Candy Queen was accompanied by Candy Blackbird for the first mile, both breaking at the stand, but he trailed fully six lengths behind her all the way. The fractional time of the filly was :12. :24. :36%. 1:01%. 1:14%. 1:41%, and 1 :5.r *i for the mile and one-eighth. Royal Julian was timed by trainer Lon Johnson, who put up S. Griffin for the first time in :12%. :24%. :37, :49%, 1:02%, 1:15%, 1 :28%. 1 :42, and 1 :55% for nine furlongs. Johnny Ferris caught Fred Jr. in the fractional time of :12%. :24%, :36%, :49%, 1:01%. 1:41%, 1:28. and 1:41% for the first mile, which was the best for that distance of any of the other candidates. Osmand. which ran a nail in his foot, showed no signs of lameness before or after his short spin of five lengths in 1 :01%.
