The new rule of the Interstate Commerce Commission, which regulates the number of attendants that may accompany shipments of thoroughbred horses, will go into effect July 20. Onind after that date six men will be allowed to travel free with car shipments of nine horses or more to any point of the United States. With four horses, or less, two attendants will be allowed to travel free ; with five to eight horses the number allowed is four. The new rule applies to every section of the United State and no distinction is made east or west of the Mississippi river. Irish Marine was claimed by K. K. Karrick out of the second race for ,800. Mikado was claimed by J. A. Coburn for ,400. Jockey L. McAtee made his first appearance following his bad fall at Belmont. McAtee hobbled about the Odom barn on crutches this morning. He will be out of the saddle for some time. Fred Hopkins returned from Latonia with the H. P. Whitney three-year-old Whiskery. The colt will be given a let-up and freshened up for Saratoga racing. Word was received of the death of Mrs. J. L. Holland at her residence, 225 79th Street, following a prolonged illness, last night. Mrs. Holland was a popular figure on New York tracks and her death was a distinct shock to her wide circle of friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday. Paul Fox distributed the condition books for the first Fort Erie meeting which open3 on July 4. Jockey Johnny Callahan left tonight for Latonia, where he will arrive in time to ride Dolan in the Latonia Derby Saturday. Jockey Denice Dubois, a youngster who rode last winter at New Orleans, has applied for a license to ride at Aqueduct. Steve ODonnell was obliged to cancel his riding engagements today on account of an injured finger which was hurt yesterday morning while he was exercising horses at their training gallops. Lee Lionel Campbell, the De Soto, Mo., sportsman, made his first appearance of the eastern season after witnpsslng the sport in the Chicago area. i i , i i
