At Washington Park One Best Bet LA DENTELLE In the Second Race. The second running of the Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap is the feature atraction at Washington Park today, the ,000 added purse finding no less than nineteen entered. There are certain to be many withdrawals before post time, but with the material to draw from, no matter how many start, as fine a race as could be desired, should be the outcome. All of the handicap stars quartered here have been entered, with Flat Iron holding the place of honor, he being assigned 120 pounds. Next in order comes Flagstaff with 117 ; Iron Mask II., 110 and the rest ranging from 99 to 115 pounds. Two other first-class numbers are also down for decision. The Garfield Handicap, at three-quarters, and to be run as the third, and the C. H. Sullivan Purse, engaging three-year-olds, over the mile, both promise much in a racing way. With a fast track the order of the day, it is not impossible that some new records will be established for, as a whole, the entrants are of pretty high caliber. RED PENNANT MONDAY MORNING GOSSOON. - In the opener, the W. S. Heaton racer RED PENNANT is given the call. He has not done much of late, but advices state that he has been training satisfactorily and is ready for the issue. He can outstep this field if in a running mood. MONDAY MORNING raced well in his last start, though beaten, and we expect to see him bang-up today when the finish line is reached. GOSSOON, on best Kentucky races, would do for the short. end of the purse. GEO. GROOM is liable to prove a dangerous contender, for he is not far from winning form. LA DENTELLE COLORED SERVANT SEVENTEEN SIXTY. Of the two-year-olds entered for the second number, LA DENTELLE rates as much the best and a repetition of her initial start over this track should find her home with plenty to spare in this event. COLORED SERVANT has had plenty of racing of late, but he is the sort of a colt that seems to thrive on work, so he can be expected to show to good advantage today. SEVENTEEN SIXTY is good at present and should be able to take down some part of the coin. BIRDWOOD and FAIR ANITA figure next in order. BULLETIN GIRL SCOUT RIVAL. The top weight of the party in the Garfield Handicap BULLETIN is looked upon as the most likely winner. He came into his own in his last start, when he took a good band into camp, and that same effort repeated today should see him leading the way home again. GIRL SCOUT will, no doubt, offer the most opposition and, taking a line through her best races here, is a real danger. RIVAL gets weight off today and, with his light impost, should be able to take down some part of the purse. YEDDO, the speedy daughter of Man o War, would be a hard one to beat if she raced back to her last two performances. SCOTLAND may have a word to say as to the outcome. j FLAT IRON SAMARON SPANISH LAY. The good FLAT IRON is our selection to carry off the Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap. He is in rare form at the present time and only has to run his usual race to be declared the winner. He has packed weight before and won, so his impost today is not looked upon as a hindrance. SAMARON found his best form racing over this course and now graduates from the plater class to the handicaps. However, he is most consistent and, with his light weight up today, he is bound to be close up at the finish. SPANISH LAY must be given consideration on his last two winning performances. IRON MASK II. is capable of turning the trick, but he is inconsistent SMILING GUS, the winner of the race last year, is also entered, bue he does not figure to have a chance. LEDGE FLATTERY MARSHALL NEY. Should LEDGE start in the C. H. Sullivan Purse rather than the feature she would stand an excellent chance of winning. She gets in with but a feather and, taking a line through her last race, is fit and ready for todays race. FLATTERY raced to the place behind LEDGE in their last meeting and we do not see how she can beat the latter today. She did not possess her fine speed of earlier races in her recent starts, but she is getting back to that form again. MARSHALL NEY could account for the show money by running back to either one of his last two starts. BREISACHER i3 not without a chance. PATRICIA MARIAN should not be entirely ignored. PRESIDENT PANI ROMA SAMARON. The locally-owned PRESIDENT raced in much improved form his last start and, if that showing was no fluke, should go well enough in the sixth to beat his company. This is at a mile, and more to the liking of the Peabody racer, and we look for him to show to much better advantage today. PANI ROMA won her first time out here and may prove to be too good for PRESIDENT if she races in the same manner today. SAMARON, if started here, should not have much trouble in getting some part of the coin. KYROCK may have to be feared. NAT EVENS and GEORGE DE MAR figure next best, in the order named. MARGARET GAUT MOSES BOLIVAR BOND. MARGARET GAUT is a good distance runner and the way she won her last start gives her the call in the final number, over the mile and a quarter route. MOSES only ha3 to run his usual race to garner second place money. BOLIVAR BOND is picking up weight in todays race, and that may prevent him from winning. However, he should get some part of the purse. TRY AGAIN prefers muddy going. HAWK EYE is not without a chance. j
