STAKES AT LEXINGTON • Five Feature Events Carded for Inaugural Kentucky Meeting. « Camden Handicap, Opening Attraction — Programs of Eight Races on Stake Days. • LEXINGTON", Ky., April 10.— Five stakes : are down for decision during the spring meeting that will be ushered in at the local Kentucky Association course on April 21. Each of the quintet of features will carry ,000 in added money and they are fashioned for the better grade of racers of various ; types as follows : Camden Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at one mile and ; a sixteenth : Ashland Oaks, for three-year-old fillies at a like distance and Ben Ali Handicap, also for three-year-olds and over, at the one mile and a sixteenth dis- ; tance. Two-year-old fillies will meet in the Hinata Stakes, at four and one-half furlongs and juveniV colts and geldings are to race over the same course in the Idle Hour Stakes. The Camden Handicap will feature the opening program of the thirteen-day meeting, while the Oaks will have its running on April 20 : the Ben Ali on April 28 ; Hinata on May 2 and Idle Hour on May 5. Stake dajs will bring a program of eight races, this innovation setting precedent here. Each stake has been generously patronized and excepting only the Ashland Oaks, which failed to attract a number of the better grade three-year-old fillies, the nominations include a goodly number of the outstanding eligible* for the various fixtures. Failure of the Oaks to draw a nomination list on a par with the class of previous years is attributed to the fact that the two-year-old filly crop of the past year in Kentucky was exceedingly lean. S. S. Combs, head of the local tracks, reports that over 1,000 stalls are available at the track proper and in privately owned stables, which have been rented by the Kentucky Association. All of the considerable number of stalls have been allotted and about 800 are occupied at the present time. Many stables will be required to pass up the local season due to lack of facilities, applications for about 400 stalls having been turned down by the management. Approximately three hundred two-year-olds are in training here and. with additional juveniles in the stables coming over from Louisville for the meeting, more than ample entries for the "baby" races are assured. The Jarvis starling gate, which is expected to come into operation on the opening day of the meeting, is eagerly awaited by members of the turf colony, the management and enthusiasts as well. Up to this time no indication as to when the device will be available for schooling has been expressed. Workmen have been busy for the past several weeks putting the plant in tip-top condition. The grandstand, fences, lawns and other parts have been remodeled and repaired and additional betterments will be affected before the meeting opens.
