Workout — Nick ullop Under Saddle. o LOUISVILLE. Ky., April 10.— Weather and track conditions at Churchill Downs this morning were ideal for training ope:: tions, and trainers of Kentucky Derby eli.ibles took full advantage by sending their charges along for what were the most pretentious trials of the season. With few exceptions everyone of the Derby aspirants were called upon for extra good work. The outstanding trials were supplied by Oh Say and War Flier, the fine pair of colts that Alex Cordon is training for the Fail-Stable of Mrs. Graham Fair Vanclerbilt. at Douglas Park, the two with their full Derby weight up were sent a mile in 1 :43. which was not only their fastest workout, but was a new mark for the one mile of the Derby training season. About a week ago the same colts ran the distance in 1 :41].-fe. This morning they both showed that their previous mile try out had been of great benefit to them for they raced more impressively, and went along at a steadier pace. They began at the stand, and both, well rated, stepped along like a team to the final eighth where Oh Say drow into a slight lead, and led his stablemate at the finish. Some idea of the evenness of the work may be gathered wh n it is stated that the different quarters were covered in almost similar time. Their fractions were: epiarter. :25% ; half, :51 ; three-quarters, 1:17. and the mile in 1 :43. The colts pulled up sound and showed no distress. This was the final Derby tryout for Oh Say and War Flier, for next Saturday together with the other horses of the Fair Stable, they will be shipped to Belmont Park. In the meantime they will be given only light work. Both colts are scheduled to start in both the Paumonok Handicap and Wood Stakes at Jamaica. Later on they will be transferred to Pimlico to fill their engagements in the Preakness Stakes. Reproduce, which is trainer Gordons own candidate for the Derby, will not go East : he will remain here to complete his Derby training, which will be in charge of Johnnie Jones, who was formerly associated with Mr. Gordon as assistant trainer. Intensive training activity prevailed at Churchill Downs and the morning work hours were marked by some fast trials. Reigh Count and Reigh Olga were both given ambitious work, which proved to be the best they Continued on sixth page. OUTSTANDING DERBY TRIALS Continued from first page. bad undertaken this season. The pair were sent three-quarters and Reigh Counts showing was vastly superior to that of his stable-mate. The watches caught the Derby favorites three-quarters in 1:16, while it took Reich Olga 1:17% to cover the same ground. The pair broke at the three-quarters post and worked to the stand. Beigh Olga had fully a second the advantage of his stable-mate at the start and he led up to the final seventy yards, wliere Reigh Count overhauled Mm and finished a length in advance. They were timed separately. Reigh Count began slowly, but gained speed after cover-ins the first half mile in :r 075 and was under a light drive in the last eighth. Reigh Olgas iraitionals were :25M;. :r l=i, l:17i5. Both colts pulled up sound and were returned to tlu-ir stalls without any untoward incident. The Three Ds Stables L erby eligil le Irish Pat displayed his best effort of the year when lie went out unaccompanied and ran seven-eighths in 1:31%, which was a truly remarkable showing Under good restraint, be went the half mile in :32 and three-quarters in 1:18. Ileinie Neusteter called upon his Nick Cul-lop for an ambitious trial and the colt responded nobly by displaying one of the speediest moves of the season. Ti-e colt was in a running mood, for he stepped along in a manner that made the dockers gasp. He went the quarter in :2oVi. half in :48. and was then eased up to complete the three-quarters in 1 :1C73. Jockey Leo Feeney, who gallops the colts, declared after that he never rode a horse which evinced such a disposition to run. Cartago and Golden Racket, in the stabla of R. E. Leichleiter, showed their fitness when they went out together and, running well together, negotiated seven-eighths in 1 :33%. They were breezing all the way, running the first quarter in :26*5, half in :J. M, and three-quarters in 1:20%. Doctor Fred, in the stable of J. B. Partridge, was unlimbered for a trip at seven-eighths, which he covered in 1:34%. This colt was in training all winter at New Orleans, and is fit and ready. Dixie Prince, belonging to the popular stable of Harned Bros., gave his owner-, much encouragement when he galloped three-quarters in 1 :17%. This big colt is showing steady improvement in each successive trtaL and will be a fit horse on the day of tha Derby. Colonel Shaw was not called upon by Lon Johnson for any extra effort. His trainer was content to gallop the colt three-quarters in 1 :18. Longridge and Bar None, belonging to the Longridge Stable, displayed their best work of the season when they were galloped a mile. Bar None, the better one of the two, covered the distance in 1 :45Vs, while Longridge went in 1:46%.
