Basil Smith, assistant starter on Marshall Cassidys staff, who has been at Exposition Park the past few days, leaves tomorrow for Woodbine Park, Toronto, to join his chief. Mrs. L. M. Holmes has secured second call on the services of jockey J. Leyand for this meeting. Friday will be the first Ladies Day of the meeting and the management is anticipating an immense attendance. For their fractiousness at the barrier the following have Deen placed on the schooling list : Climax, Clique, Conquistador. Frightful, Jubal Early, Mazzie and Tom Byrne. Racing secretary Charles Henry announced that the sixth race of Thursday will carry a value of ,000 instead of the original 00. A surplus of 00 is on the books, due to the fourth race with a value of ,000 on Wednesday failing to fill. Two purses were programed to fill the card on that day. Word was received that H. W. Hoag, who trains the Mira-Monte Stock Farms Stable horses, left Tijuana Wednesday with a car- load of racers to be raced in Illinois this summer. The consignment consists mostly of two-year-olds. «
