Goes Mile and an Eighth in 1 :53 % and Derby Route in 2:08. ♦ Trainer Miehell Flans to Start Derby Favor* ite In a Hare Monday — Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hertz Among Visitors. LOUISVILLE, Ky.. May 11— Reigh Count, the Kentucky Derby favorite, had what is expected to be his final private trial of consequence for the big race to be run a week from tomorrow, when he worked a mile and an eighth this morning. Mrs. John D. Hertz, his owner, and her husband were present when Reigh Count galloped the mentioned distance in 1 :534/f, rather handily, and was cased up the full Derby course of a mile and quarter in 2 :08. Under the guidance of "Chick" Lang, who will ride him in his approaching major engagement, and with close to Derby weight of 126 pounds up, the colt went the opening quarter in :24% ; half mile in :W/s ; three-ciuarters in 1 :Hl/s and mile in 1 :40%. During the final five-eighths he was accompanied by Sea Rip, another of Mrs. Hertz Derby eligibles. The latter worked on the outside of his illustrious stable companion. Reigh Count was sent into his trial at the eighth post and, after having jogged a mile at a leisurely gait, Lang took a strong hold on him and kept him close to the inner rail as he made his way at even pace around the first turn. He was kept on the inside and close to the rail as Sea Rip joined him, but upon approaching the three-eighths post Lang began easing him out into the track. When he made the final turn, with Sea Rip on the outside and head and head with him, he was fully thirty feet off the rail and Lang was urging him briskly when he straightened up for the run through the main stretch. Sea Rip was easily able to keep on even terms with the Derby choice to the end of the three quarters and. as he was being pulled up, Reigh Count continued at a diminshed pace over the last eighth of a mile and a cpiarter. Trainer B. S. Miehell, who witnessed the training of his pair from the point where Reigh Count broke, expressed complete satisfaction with the latters trial. Previously Miehell indicated that his desire to familiarize Reigh Count with wide racing around the stretch turn and through the main stretch was responsible for his leaving the rail during the last stages of todays gallop. This training indicates that Miehell is satisfied that Reigh Count will be required to race from behind some of his rivals in the final half-mile of the Derby. Mr. and Mrs. Hertz, early morning arrivals from their home in Chicago, were at the track some time before Reigh Count was sent to the track. Following the trial Miehell announced in-tentiems of racing Reigh Count at a mile and a sixteenth next Monday afternoon. Following that race he will be subjected to very light work during the time intervening before the Derby. The Monday race is for three-year-olds exclusively. He will be required to carry 118 pounds and a number of other leading western racers of his age can oppose him with a margin in the weights. Other gallops by Derby eligibles this morning included the following: Martie Flynn. three-eighths in :35% ; Law-ley, three-eighths in :38 ; Algol, one-quarter in :23% ; Bonivan, three-eighths in :36% ; Oregon Fir, seven-eighths in 1 :30% ; Do-wagiac, one-quarter in :25 ; Col. Bob, three-eighths in :38 ; Jack Higgins, three-eighths in :36 ; Round Trip, half-mile in :50% ; Stamford, a mile in 1 :43, and Sandrine, a mile in 1 :43. a
