MARYLAND TURF NOTES T ex 4 BALTIMORE, Md., May 11. Harry Rites has arranged to send six of the J. E. Griffith horses in the car that T. J. Donahue is sending to the Woodbine on Monday. In the Griffith consignment will be the useful handicap horse Canter. . G. Simons acquired by private purchase of W. Ewing this morning the plater Lieutenant Key by Half Rock— Lilfetti. Bob Friend, one of Miltons assistants, goes from here to Arlington Park, where he will assist starter Tex Dean. W. Booth has arranged to ship J. R. Ma-combers Kentucky Derby candidate, Petee-Wrack, to Louisville on Sunday. J. W. Dayton leaves for Toronto on Tuesday with Jenny Dean and Sea Lady. T. J. Donahue ships the big band he is training J for C. L. Whiting to Canada the same day. . F. H. Smith disposed of the brood mares Orenza and Elinor K. to Bert Williams, and [ they will be shipped to Kentucky next week. It is understood that Williams acted for Frank Navin in the transaction. . James Rowe, Sr., came over from New York to saddle the Harry Payne Whitney horse Victorian, in the Preakncss Stakes. J. B. Campbell distributed among the ; horsemen the books for the Fairmount Park [ meeting. Among the distinguished patrons who came a I over to witness the Preakness Stakes were : 1 Her Highness Princess de Ligne, His Highness the Prince de Ligne and their daughter r the Princess Elizabeth de Ligne. The Prince 2 de Ligne is the Belgian Ambassador in Washington, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Whiteley, the s Belgian Consul, Governor Albert C. Ritchie of f Maryland, Bernard Baruch of Washington, D. C. Edward R. Bradley of Kentucky and 1 the British Ambassador Sir Esme and Lady j I inward. Frank Hayes, the well known sportsman, i, whose horses are looked after by P. E. Fitzgerald, ; marie the trip over from Waterbury, Conn., to witness the running of the Preakness Stakes. Samuel D. Riddle was another r prominent sportsman who came over to see e the race run and to root for Bateaus s chances. Walter Thompson, publicity man for the Canadian National Railways, came down n from Montreal. Mr. Thompson is quite enthusiastic ,. over the coming meetings in Canada this year. Frank Stevens is leaving for Canada on n Sunday with a draft of the W. J. Buchanan n band. J. A. Parson received word from W. W. Alexander of Hopkins, Mo., that his mare e Elizabeth Jewell had foaled a fine looking g colt by Seth. The Foxcatcher Farms big band, in charge ,. of C. Utz, will leave for Churchill Downs tomorrow.
