CHRIS FITZGERALD STEWARD Well -Known Turf Official Is Engaged to Act at Forthcoming Woodbine Park Meeting. TORONTO, Ont., May 19.— One of the widest-known turf executives in America has been secured by the Ontario Jockey Club to act as a steward at the meeting which opened at Woodbine Park today. Chris J. Fitzgerald, who, with A. E. Dy-ment, George M. Hendrie and Francis Nelson will preside at the east end course, has been identified with the American turf in official capacities of judge, steward, handi-capper, etc., for many years, serving at tracks in various parts of the United States. This will be the first time the eminent racing executive has officiated at any Canadian course, and it is in keeping with the enterprising policy of the Ontario Jockey Club that such an outstanding official has been engaged. His appointment will add prestige to a meeting which indeed needs little more to recommend it. It is known that secretary W. P. Frascr of the Ontario Jockey Club went to considerable trouble to secure the consent of Mr. Fitzgerald to officiate at the impending meeting. Arrangements had to be made by cable, Mr. Fitzgerald being in England when Mr. Fraser hit upon the happy idea of seeking his services as steward. Mr. Fitzgerald immediately left England on the Mauretania, which is due to dock at New York City tomorrow, and he will come at once to Toronto, being expected Saturday morning. Mr. Fitzgerald is a welcome addition to the Woodbine corps of supervisors. Following is a list of the Woodbine officials : Stewards — C. J. Fitzgerald, A. E. Dyment, George M.
