f CANADIAN TURF NOTES I $ $ TORONTO. Ont.. May 19. Two of the two-year-olds that A. G. Weston shipped to Thorncliffe from Pimiieo are down with fever. Both are said to be in a bad way, with but little prospect of recovery. Jopagan and Malaria were both unloaded in good condition and are going along well. Willie Curran is here with three of the W. J. Owens band, Fedonr.a, Jack of Clubs and Voyage. The former was acquired through the claiming route at Jamaica a few days ago. F. II. Smith disposed of the two platers Jake and Sun Rajah at private sale to J. Cochran. Smith, who bought Prickly Heat in at the auction sale held at Havre de Grace, has decided to dispose of the latter, being anxious to retire from racing. He also has a couple of brood mares in Kentucky. "Happy" Gordon is making the engagements of the three good riders, D. Mergler, L. Schaefer and J. Walker. Mergler was second on the winning list at Bowie this spring. He is a capable jockey, in fact, one of the best riders up here this spring. It. S. Smallwood has the engagement book of C. Ralls, J. Maciver and R. McGinnis and Charles Thiery is looking after jockeys W. Harvey and P. Groos. Elmer Trueman reports that all of his horses, with the exception of Aviaiiix. shipped in good shape. The Trueman band are quartered at Thorncliffe.
