STAMPDALE REPEATS ♦ Ellis Sprinter Wins Third Straight Purse at Aurora. ♦ Colors of Chicago Alderman in Front in Third Race — Ladies Race Falls to Rocking. * •• AURORA, 111., June 1. — Continuing to race in his best form, the six-year-old sprinter Stampdale, sporting the brown and green silks of the J. C. Elli3 stable, accounted for the Sammy Mandell Handicap, feature of todays program at Exposition Park. Stampdale again prevailed as an overwhelming favorite, winning in a manner that was satsfactory to his large following. The veteran scored his third straight success in as many starts, while he also annexed his fourth purse of the meeting for his owner. In winning the Sammy Mandell Handicap, Stampdale matched strides with and defeated J. J. Coughlins three-year-old Participate, the latter finishing second, a length and a half back of the winner. Participate led Pat by four lengths. Pat was never in danger of losing third place, but was unable to improve on it. Anita M. and Mary O. were the only other starters, but they failed to offer serious opposition. Racing conditions were ideal, pleasant weather making the outdoor sport enjoyable, and an extremely large crowd turned out. The Sammy Mandell Handicap was the feature, being supported by the race in which the starters were ridden by lady jockeys. Sammy Mandell, lightweight champion of the world, was on hand and was the guest of the stewards in the stand during the running of the race that was namsd for the champion. A number of the well-backed horses won, which made the afternoon more enjoyable. NEW TRACK RECORD. The track record for the mile distance here again went by the boards, when, after Bocara-tone had established a new mark of 1 :30 for that distance in his race on Decoration Day, the Jones Stock Farms Dolly Seth ran the route in the fast time of 1:38%, reducing Bocaratone record by two-fifths of a second. Dolly Seth raced to Tier victory in the sixth race, landing safely in advance of the three-year-old Field Marshal, the latter in turn just outfinishing Master Ace, another three-year-old, for second place. There were but six starters in this and Dolly Seth hung up another score for the favorites. In the fourth race, arranged for lady riders, the public apparently anticipated the riding ability of Miss Violet Crosbie, and promptly placed their wagers to back her mount, Rocking, and this horse went to the post a heavy favorite over the six others. Miss Crosbies exhibition of norsemanship was a treat to watch, and she had Rocking home winner at the end of a long stretch drive, winnirg with a length to spare from Flora Le Breton, ridden by Pearl Mackey. Washoe, with May Hesse up, took third place, after displaying the most speed until inside the last eighth, where he succumbed to Rocking, and later to Flora Le Breton. Marion Herold, who rode Ragtime, fell just a few yards from the finish and was picked up in an unconscious condition, but recovered in short order and suffered only minor bruises. The form players and backers of short-priced horses were off to an auspicious beginning when the heavily-backed Our Buddy got home in front in the opening five and a half furlongs dash. After forcing the pace made by Meddling Seth to the stretch. Our Buddy challenged an eighth away and, taking the lead, held it to the end. Meddling Seth outstayed Ossie II. by half a length for second place. FAVORITE DEFEATED. The favorite in the second race disappointed badly and the result was much of a surprise when Katharine W., ruling at good odds, turned up the winner. Pichonne, another outsider, raced to second place, while Paula Shay, which finished third, was also one of the lightly-backed ones. Katharine W. was outrun in the early stages, but jockey Guerra weaved his way up with her in the last quarter and, taking the lead in the last sixteenth, after disposing of Pichonne, won drawing away. American Thunder, at odds-on, showed her customary flash of early speed, but quit badly in the stretch and finished in last place. The third race, for two-year-old.-*, found a field of ten shifty youngsters vieing for honors under allowance conditions. Alderman J. J. Coughlin started an entry of Dolly Polly and Subway Tube, the latter a first time starter, but it remained for Dolly Polly to win the race by vanquishing Tr .ape of Dawn by a margin of a length. Trompe of Dawn Continued on tTrenty-fourth page. STAMPDALE REPEATS Continued from first pat*. took the lead soon after the start and showed the most speed, but tired badly near the end, just outstaying Lady Va Va for second place. C A. Bernhardts Isoard, overwhelming favorite in the seventh race, added further glory to a big day for the favorites and won a victory over one mile and seventy yards, winning in a canter. Paprika finished closest to the easiest winner of the afternoon, but was four lengths back at the finish and but ,1 half length before Rose Mary Laycock. Isoard was backed to such an extent that he was the shortest priced winner of the meeting. It was Isoards third straight victory in as many starts at this track.
