ROBERT MAXWELL VICTORIOUS HAMILTON, Ohio, June 1.— A. E. Scotts Robert Maxwell accounted for the most pretentious offering at the Fair Grounds this afternoon when he won the third race, in which he defeated Kalakaua and War Boy. He led by a comfortable margin throughout. Kalakaua was a handy second after May Bruen dropped out of contention while rounding the stretch turn. War Boy came from far back to beat the others home. Rain threatened throughout the afternoon, but failed to materialize and the track was at its best. Despite the weather outlook, an excellent mid-week day crowd witnessed the sport, greatly augmented by liberal patronage of the fair sex, it being the last Ladies Day of the meeting. Thistle Mood graduated from the ranks of the non-winners when she established a safe early lead, maintaining it to the end in the initial dash. Brown Chief barely lasted to save second from the fast-finishing Le Mariage. After following the pace of Lampward to the stretch in the second dash, Midday forged to the front and won going away. Lampward had no opposition for second place. Newt came from behind to beat the others home. Taking command after going half the trip, Little Hattie led Pennyrile home by a safe margin in the fourth. From a slow beginning Earcroft beat the others home. Miss Lillian showed the most early speed, but ran extremely wide on the turns,. which ruined her chances. Mode Nicol today purchased Stella May at private sale.
