LINCOLN FIELDS NOTES 1 $ » CRETE, 111., .Tune 22. Nine hundred and nine nominations were made for the six stakes to be decided at the Lincoln Fields meeting, which opens July 2. The Chicago Heights Handicap, 0,000 added, for two-year-olds, over the three-quarter.s distance, which will be run on the final day of the meeting, July 28, outdrcw the others by a big margin, there being 252 named for it. That there will be an abundance of juveniles on hand is evidenced by the 157 entries for the Dearborn Stakes and 116 in the Joliet Stakes, both ,000 added races. The recent rains helped the Lincoln Fields course wonderfully. "It was just what the track needed," said superintendent Tom Young, "but we have had just about enough of it. The new soil has settled nicely and horsemen will find a real racing strip when they come to the Crete course." Col. Matt J. Winn departed for Latonia Wednesday Right to look after the Derby there Saturday. He will return Monday and will spend little time away from Chicago during the remainder of the summer. Horses will be pouring in steadily at Lincoln Fields from now on. Quite a few of the turfmen racing at Latonia have announced their intention of sending part of their bands here in advance of the meeting and bringing the rest when the Covington meeting ; ends. Galahad, Phil Reuters imported chestnut : son of Prince Galahad — Claimorisa will come I here from Latonia, where he went to fill his j Derby engagement. The entire Iteuter stable Will participate in the Lincoln Fields meeting. Trainer Pete Coyne of the Joseph E. Widener stable, named Osmand, Chance Shot and Kiev for the Lincoln and Marquette Handicaps, worth 5,000 and §15,000 respectively. In all probability the first named will be sent West to will these engagements. E. B. McLean will be well fortified in the Lincoln Fields Stakes. He named five for the Crete Handicap, six for the Joliet Stakes, four for the Lincoln Handicap, five for the Dearborn Stakes, five for the Marquette Handicap and eighth for the Chicago Heights Handicap. Trainer Lon Johnson advised superintendent Young that he will bring the W. H. Whitehouse horses to Lincoln K Ms after Latonia ends. Loyal Julian, a stake winner at Louisville a few weeks back, and Colonel Shaw have taken engagements here. Although a large force of workmen is en-gaced in making the various Improvements ait Lincoln Fields, the meeting could open on a few days notice. Most of the labor being done now is in the nature of cleaning up after the major work that was performance*! during the winter and early spring. More attention is being devoted to the vari-ious roads leading to the course than anything else. This season the congestion will be reduced to a minimum and patrons will find a big change in the highway.-;. Judge C. W. Hay left for Latonia to witness the running of the Derby. He plans to return Monday.
