TO USE WAITE GATE AGAIN COLLINSVILLE, 111., June 22.— General manager C. Bruce Head made the following statement today regarding the use of the C. M. Waite stall starting gate, which has been used during the present meeting at Fairmount Park : "An erroneous impression prevails as to the attitude of the management and officials as to the efficacy of the Waite stall starting-gate. A protest against the further use of the gate was lodged with me by several horsemen Wednesday. These horsemen were informed that the objections raised by them would be properly considered and immediate steps taken to ascertain the views of all horsemen now racing at Fairmount Park as to the merits or demerits of the Waite starting gate. The protestors were further informed that until the expressed views on the subject were obtained from all the horse owners interested that the use of the patented starting gate would be discontinued. "In discussing the matter with horsemen we find that practically all of them agree that the stall gate will be the eventual solution of the starting problem. The Waite gate, while it may not be perfect in all details of construction, is an advanced idea and, with the improvements now in process of development, the objections lodged against its present use by some horsemen will be overcome."
