LINCOLN FIELDS POPULAR 4 Every Stall Reserved — Late Ones I£""t Use Washington Park. o Much Interest Manifested in 5,000 Lincoln Handicap — Tlirco Stal.es for Opening Week. « CRETE, 111.. Juno 23.— The race meeting that opens on July 2 at Lincoln Fields not only finds every stall applied for, but the overflow will have to be taken care of at Washington Park. A number of owners did not get their applications in for stalls in time at the local track, but they will be able to participate in the daily programs through the vanning process. With the Latonia Derby decided, chief interest now will be centered in the 5,000 added Lincoln Handicap, which will be run on Saturday, July 7. This is the piece de resistance of the Lincoln Fields meeting and it is attracting as much attention, if not more than any stake since the Kentucky Derby. It is for three-year-olds and upward and if a three-year-old is good enough to win it, he or she will be proclaimed the champion of the West. With handicap weights prevailing, the three-year-olds have none the best of it, especially horses like Misstep and Toro. which have figured so prominently in Derbys of this year. Heigh Count was not named for it. When Col. Matt J. Winn returns from Latonia today, he will devote the remainder of his time for the present to the Lincoln Fields meeting. He is confident that this will be the most successful in the brief history of the Crete track. 11. .1. Bedwell yesterday moved twelve horses over* to Lincoln Fields and "Frisco" Hoag, who looks after the Mira Monte Stock Farm owned by H. J. Macomber, announced his plans of moving in today with a big band. Just b fore his departure for Latonia to witness the running of the Derby, superintendent Tom Young received a wire from trainer Kay Spence to the effect that he will ship one carload of horses within the next few days. The other members of his end of the Audley Farm Stable will be sent here when the Latonia meeting ends. Charles W. Bidwill, secretary and treasurer of the Illinois Turf Association, is due back tomorrow from Latonia. Judge C. W. Hay will return at the same time. The secretarys office at Lincoln Fields will he opened today. In all probability secretary William H. Shelley will come back with Colonel Winn. It is something unusual to run three stakes In one week, but this will be accomplished at Lincoln Fields. On the opening day the Crete Handicap. ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward, at three-quarters of a mile will be decided ; two days later the Joliet Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, also worth ,000 added, will be run off, and then will come the Lincoln Handicap. Practically all of the good jockeys riding in Kentucky will ply their vocation at Lincoln Fields. In addition to these, Fairmount Tark will send its best. There should not be a dearth of riders. Jockey Earl Sande will come West to ride any of the Widener horses that contest stakes. In the event that trainer George Odom decides to send any of the Marshall Field horses to Lincoln Fields, jockey Linus McAtee will be on hand to pilot them. Mr. Field is vice-president of the Lmcoln Fields Jockey Club and has several horses engaged in stakes here. Arrangements are being made to run two special trains from Latonia to Lincoln Fields. Their exact departure has not been timed, but they will arrive here in time for owners to give their charges an "opener" in the event that they want to race them on the first day. Erwin Weidekamp, who will be in charge of the pari-mutuel department at Lincoln Fields, will come in the fore part of the week to arrange all details in connections with his department. He will bring practically the same crew as held forth last season. The first race at Lincoln Fields will be called to the port at 2 oclock each afternoon. This will give the patrons ample time to get back to Chicago before dark.
