Kentucky Derby Candidates HORSF OWNER DOUBLE HEART THREE DS STABLE 8 @, Double Heart, one of the Derby candidates of the Three Ds Stable of W. T. Waggoner, is a royally bred colt. He possesses a fine order of speed but has failed to win at over three-quarters of a mile. Bred at Himyar Stud, he was sent to Saratoga by Mr. Chinn, where he passed into the hands of his present owner on a bid of ,500. He was successful in five of his twenty-two starts, one of which was the American National Futurity at Arlington Park. An element of racing luck played a prominent part in enabling him to take this rich prize. Receiving seven pounds from Clyde Van Dusen and ten from Roguish Eye, he finished a head in advance of the Gardner gelding, covering the three-quarters in 1:12%. The finish was ex- Stremely close, the first seven passing the judges being separated by less than a horses length. Previous to this race Double Heart finished second to The Choctaw in the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap. These were the only stakes in which he gained a place. Unless Double Heart has developed wonderfully well o-er the winter, it is doubtful if Mr. Waggoner will elect to send him to the post in the Derby in preference to Verma-jo. winner of the rich New Orleans Handicap. Double Hearts pedigree offers an interesting study. High Time, his sire, got High Strung, last years leading money winner, Click, Dinner Dance, Prince of Wales, Mc-Culloch and many other good winners of 1928, but is probably best known as sire of the game little gelding of a few years back, Sarazen. His first dam, Dora W., a winner herself, is from the great producer Dora I., dam of nine winners, including Jim Baisey, which accounted for thirty-eight races. Dora I. was sister to Plumeria, dam of Sir Wilfred, sire of Trojan, a Futurity winner. The next dam, Froila, produced May W., winner of forty-five races, and is by Faustus, brother to Mannie Gray, which gives Double Heart four infusions of this famous blood. And so. on back through generations of winner producing dams to a royal mare of the number twelve family, which is also the family of Sir Wilfred, Colonel Livingston, Masqueda, Tenny, Commando and others of much note.
