SCORES INITIAL VICTORY ♦ On Her Toes Wins for Samuel D. Riddle at Jamaica. ♦ Ftrgt New York Triumph for Glen Riddle Farm Silks — Track Fetlock Deep in Mud. - NEW YORK, N. Y., May 14— The Glen Riddle Stable scored its first success of the Metropolitan season when On Her Toes, daughter of High Time — Tripping, ridden by A. Robertson, was winner of the Whimsical Purse, a condition race for three-year-old fillies. Second portion of the purse fell to Electa, racing for the Middleburg Stable, while Mrs. George Carrolls Okaybee was third. Three others also started. There might have been a different finish, or at least a much closer one, had Electa left with the others. When the barrier was released, she was unprepared and followed the others away. In the meantime Okaybee had dashed into a commanding lead, pressed by On Her Toes, while the others were racing along smoothly. Electa worked her way up on the inside on the far turn and, in so doing, displayed high speed. Turning for home Okaybee found the pacemaking effort too much and she gave way to On Her Toes. The latter drew away steadily and at the end had a safe margin. Electa came with a rush and was a good second, while Okaybee lasted long enough to hold Anna G. safe for the minor portion of the purse. The latter finished fast in the middle of the track. The winner was the popular choice of the race and the victory caused some excitement. Devoid of an outstanding feature and decided und -r disagreeable conditions, the racing failed to arouse much enthusiasm amongst the smallest crowd of the season. A shower set in before the running of the first race which later on turned to a steady driz-sle and the track was fetlock deep in mud. The crowd was forced to seek shelter and except during the running of the races the lawn was deserted. Ming, one of the Rancocas pair, proved an easy winner of the first race of the day, showing the way to H. P. Whitneys Murky Cloud, while W. R. Coes Hilaria was third. The winner was ridden by L. Fator and followed the pace established by Hilaria. The latter displayed high early speed, but faltered in the stretch run while under pressure ar d gave way. Fator moved up with Ming after the stretch turn had been passed and at the end drew away. Murky Cloud responded to pressure and finished fast at the end to dispose of the tired Hilaria. Zida and Leila A., the other two starters, did not cut much fig-are in the running. The kindergarten riders performed in the second race of the day, a dash of three-quarters and the Middleburg Stable furnished the winner in Campanella, after a drive. James Butlers Mote was the one to race to the place, while W. Longs Irish Holiday was third. The latter was the one to cut out the early running and he flattered extensively by drawing away into a long lead. He Stopped rapidly in the stretch and gave way to both Mote and Campanella. The latter worked her way up steadily and closed gamely while indecision on the part of Brice, astride Mote, at the furlong pole, probably cost the purse. Brice was undecided to go to the inside or take the outer course, finally taking the latter. Bird Catcher, racing for the Mendham Stable, graduated from the maiden ranks when he was ridden out to lead home ten other maidens over three-quarters. Kildare was the one to race to second place, while Wood God was third. The winner was ridden 1 y W. Kelsay and. from a good beginning, was rushed into command at once. At home in the going, he set a fast pace and, saving ground all the way, stood a mild drive courageously. Kildare, which was forced to come to the outside entering the stretch, finished fa t and outstayed Wood God for second place. The latter shook off Passe in the stretch but could not retain his advantage when put under pressure. Passe saved much ground but tired after making a determined effort in the stretch. W. H. Dozier claimed Mortgage from the Andover Stable out of the second race for 13,000.
